Life imitates art?
Apr. 20th, 2012 09:31 amWe have a new antique/consignment shop in town. George and I like to stop in and chat with the owner.
A few days ago, I saw a pair of pointe shoes for sale.
I picked them up to look at them.
I did NOT get an overwhelming urge to Sugar Plum Fairy myself into oblivion.
I figure that's a good sign.
I pointed them out to George. We got a private little chuckle out of it.

An absolutely gorgeous day
Apr. 7th, 2012 03:01 pmThe foliage has been amazing (if a little bit early) this season.
The azaleas have exploded with color (with some still to come). The dogwoods have bee gorgeous (we need to see about nurturing the ones in our own yard, as they seem to be struggling).
The Good Friday play went well last night. I hope it was an encouragement and those who came got out of it what they needed.
I'm a little at a loss as to what exactly to do for the new person coming to our house. It seems like there's so much preparation that I don't know where to start, and I have no time to figure it out. (Pardon me while I freak out just a wee bit.)

"Anything You Need, You Got It"
Apr. 6th, 2012 08:09 amThe following was written for a devotional booklet compiled by my church last summer. Based on I Corinthians 13:5, "[Love] . . . is not self-seeking . . . "

Tell me you want to play and I'll pick up to three of your fandoms. Then update your journal and answer the following questions:
1. What got you into this fandom in the first place?
2. Do you think you'll stay in this fandom or eventually move on?
3. Favorite episodes/books/movies, etc?
4. Do you participate in this fandom (fanfiction, graphics, discussions)?
5. Do you think more people should get into this fandom?

Kitty worry
Mar. 27th, 2012 10:41 amI took my cat *points to icon* to the vet early today. She was listless and grumpy last night, and listless and unresponsive this morning. Totally disengaged, and when she would move around, it looks like she's confused. Just walking around in circles.
I spent the morning checking her to see if she was still breathing.
It came on very suddenly. My first thought was "stroke." I'm also wondering "concussion." Or possibly "blindness" from a relapse of last summer.
She's only sixteen. (Yes, I know that's old for a cat, but our last one was twenty-one, so sixteen does not seem old.) And she's my cat. She follows me around. She's my "familiar."
She's under observation right now, and I'm waiting for a call after the vet examines her.
Quite frankly, I'm scared.

And the baby's name is . . .
Mar. 21st, 2012 07:03 pmThomas Colton Padalecki.
From the People Magazine website:
Jared Padalecki Welcomes Son Thomas Colton
Jared Padalecki‘s new role: Superdad!
The Supernatural star and his wife Genevieve Cortese welcomed a son, Thomas Colton Padalecki, on Monday, March 19, his rep confirms to PEOPLE exclusively.
Baby boy weighed in at 8 lbs., 6 oz.
After announcing that they were expecting, Padalecki, 29, and Cortese, 31, requested fans contribute to St. Jude’s Research Hospital in lieu of gifts.
Thus far, fans have raised over $40,000 for the hospital, and the couple plans to match the final total.
Padalecki wed former Supernatural costar Cortese in February 2010 in Sun Valley, Idaho.
I like the name. Thomas is a name I've been half considering recently, since recently reading about the apostle Thomas's loyalty. (Yes, he's most remembered for doubting, but he was also loyal. Then Thomas (also known as Didymus) said to the rest of the disciples, “Let us also go, that we may die with him.” ~John 11:16)
It's a lovely name they've chosen. (Or perhaps Baby Thomas introduced himself. Hee.)

Wearin' o' the green
Mar. 17th, 2012 02:32 pmHappy St. Patty's Day to ye!
Tonight I'm working an Irish dance. Our band is The Toad Mamas, and the dance is "contra dancing," or community dancing--American, Irish, squares, and reels. It will be an experience.
And beforehand, Geo and I are going out for shepherd's pie (me) and corned beef and cabbage (him).
Hope you all are having a festive time.

A beautiful day in the neighborhood
Mar. 15th, 2012 02:10 pmSpring has sprung. The trees are budding--beautiful pinks and whites. The forsythia are amazingly golden. Our daffodils are in bloom. Spring and autumn have such amazing color here. We've opened the windows to breezes through the house. We've got a chipmunk or two that uses our back porch as a shortcut. It's just amazingly contenting to find a comfortable spot in the house and just be.
( The Good Friday play )
I'm going to DC tonight with a local drama reviewer. She has an extra ticket to a show, and she offered it to me. Free ticket, transportation, press night, and noshes. Why not?

Went to a jewelry party last night. This is not your average home party plan jewelry party. This jewelry is all unique and handmade by my former boss's best friend. No two pieces are alike. I bought a garnet piece several years ago, and it's one of my go-to pieces that I absolutely love. Last night I bought a strand of multi-colored pearls and an "energy" piece (for lack of a better name), pearl with a swirling ceramic pendant.
I'm hoping that the next time Former Boss has such a party, that there will be a piece such that I described to Jewelry Maker.
( Favorite color )
It's a gorgeous day today. And here it is, 2:00pm, and I've frittered away so much of the day that I'm still in my pj's.
Oy.

For those of my f-list and wider reading public who might be into "all-natural" or "organic" make-up products:
Can you point me in the direction of a good but relatively inexpensive lipstick/stain/color that is petroleum-free? It might also be certain dyes drying out my lips, but it seems the common denominator I've been able to identify is petroleum.
Most recently, cocoa butter has been the most moisturizing and healing, but when I tried Palmer's lip balm, (which I really rather like, alas. Same way I really liked Burt's Bees) it gave me the same troubles as lipstick, and the primary ingredient is petroleum jelly.
I've found a couple of products on-line that look promising, but I was wondering if anyone has specific recommendations for which they could offer testimonies. :-)
Thanks!
