Every time I see that Felicia Day is going to be on SPN (or anywhere else, for that matter), my first thought is always, "What? I have my own day? When did that happen? Oh, wait . . ."

I also wonder how she pronounces her name. Like I do, or if she contributes to the mispronouncing of mine.

How do people mispronounce your name?

Much (most?) of the world pronounces it "fe-LEE-sha." I pronounce it "fe-LISH-a." It rhymes with "Morticia" or "Patricia." (Notice the similarities in spelling. Heh.)

The long ee sound shows up in the Romance language pronunciations (fe-LEE-see-ah), which I don't mind at all, but I've never quite understood how it's come to such prominence in the American pronunciation, since we don't say "Pah-TREE-sha," for example. Tricia is not pronounced "TREEsha."

My name is pronounced more like the name "Felicity" is pronounced. Not "fe-LEE-city" but "fe-LI-city."

It's just a pet peeve I have, especially when it's people who have known me for years. It's also a pleasant surprise when someone asks the correct pronunciation, or better yet, gets it right the first time. :-)

Maybe it's a regional thing? I've heard quite a few people say "pa-TREE-sha."

Interesting! I don't think I've ever heard Patricia pronounced with a long ee sound. (Though that would be the Spanish/French/Latin language pronunciation.) Neither have I ever heard Tricia pronounced with a long ee.

My nickname among my school friends when I was growing up was "Fish." Very indicative of the pronunciation my parents chose.

All the people I've ever talked to about her pronounced it "feh LEE shuh," but I don't know how she herself pronounces it.

I'm not surprised. Most (?) people pronounce it that way. I've gotten used to it, and it only really bothers me when someone I've known for years still pronounces it that way.

It's always a delight when someone gets it right for me the first time. (I also get tickled when they spell it correctly on the first try.)

I've only heard "Felicia" with a short "i," like yours. But I live in LA, so it might be very West Coast. :)

Interesting. I'm . . . not sure how to suss that out. Being from the mid-west, and my parents using the short "i" pronunciation.

Hm . . .

I love Felicia Day.....and I'd love to let it be your day too! All hail Felicia!

P.S. She pronounces her name fuh-LEE-shu.

We must have a proper party on Felicia Day. PIe! Cupcakes! Festive adult beverages! Woo hoo!

Re: pronunciation. Yep, not surprised. It seems very few people pronounce it the way I do. Which has always puzzled me, since it's spelled the same way as "Patricia," and we don't say "Pa-TREE-sha."

Or "feh-LEE-city" (Felicity).

*shrug*

Ha! Now all I can think of is Pleticia from Ten Inch Hero!

*goes off to prepare refreshments for Felicia day*

RE: Pleticia. Yes. Heh.

My nickname among my school friends growing up was "Fish." Short, of course, for Fuh-LISH-uh.

Tish. Fish. Makes sense to me. :-)

(Of course, Tish is also short for Morticia. As in "Tish! You spoke French! Speak some more! Soup du jour. Eiffle Tower."

*still needs an Addams Family icon*
