Every time I see that Felicia Day is going to be on SPN (or anywhere else, for that matter), my first thought is always, "What? I have my own day? When did that happen? Oh, wait . . ."
I also wonder how she pronounces her name. Like I do, or if she contributes to the mispronouncing of mine.

Date: 2012-04-24 11:43 pm (UTC)The long ee sound shows up in the Romance language pronunciations (fe-LEE-see-ah), which I don't mind at all, but I've never quite understood how it's come to such prominence in the American pronunciation, since we don't say "Pah-TREE-sha," for example. Tricia is not pronounced "TREEsha."
My name is pronounced more like the name "Felicity" is pronounced. Not "fe-LEE-city" but "fe-LI-city."
It's just a pet peeve I have, especially when it's people who have known me for years. It's also a pleasant surprise when someone asks the correct pronunciation, or better yet, gets it right the first time. :-)

Re: pronunciation. Yep, not surprised. It seems very few people pronounce it the way I do. Which has always puzzled me, since it's spelled the same way as "Patricia," and we don't say "Pa-TREE-sha."
Or "feh-LEE-city" (Felicity).

Date: 2012-04-25 02:56 am (UTC)My nickname among my school friends growing up was "Fish." Short, of course, for Fuh-LISH-uh.
Tish. Fish. Makes sense to me. :-)
(Of course, Tish is also short for Morticia. As in "Tish! You spoke French! Speak some more! Soup du jour. Eiffle Tower."
