It's been a week, and looking back at the past week, it seems like ages ago that we met the little guy we thought we'd be bringing home with us. There were a lot of indications that it wouldn't play out for us the way we expected, and I think in the back of my mind, I knew--even expected--Birth Mom would change her mind. It still hurt, though.

George took it hard on Sunday and sprang back Monday. I felt very heavy and "this is just one more setback" on Monday.

I spoke to our case worker yesterday, and we're now "back in rotation." We're also going to use this time wisely, to get finances lined up.

Having read the blog of another family who has adopted, I've come to realize that this was what I call a "preparedness drill." It made things real, that this could happen at any time, and that we need to be ready.

As the saying goes, "Be prepared. It wasn't raining when Noah built the ark."

I was also thinking about the parable of the ten virgins yesterday. And while the parable applies specifically to being prepared for the the coming of Christ, it applies equally well for any need for preparedness. (The parable can be found in Matthew 25:1-13.)

George and I went to an infant care class at the local hospital on Wednesday. Not a whole lot to the class. A few things we didn't know, but a lot of it we've read about. (And colic is freaking George the heck out.)

So. Moving forward. A little more experienced, and hopefully, more prepared.
