Or into the Impala. Whichever.

Hunting Trip t-shirt

Not my favorite design of an SPN t-shirt I've ever seen, but it's on ThinkGeek, which pleasantly surprises me.

When I was little, I had a set of Mattel dolls called The Sunshine Family. I had great fun playing with Stephanie, Steve, and Sweets. I had their camper/farmer's market/craft fair booth and their tandem bicycle surrey, and I believe I had their house as well.

Here's today's sunshine family, which Sunshine Dad took and Sunshine Mom shared:

I know I haven't been around much. Since my dad's passing, I haven't felt really motivated to post much of anything. This weekend I've been busy with my 25-year high school reunion (had a great time! :-) ), which I might write about. But when I found these pictures, I knew I had a duty to make this post.

Warning: Blindingly sexy smile and well-fitting t-shirt at the other end of this link.

Note the henna tat. I'm wondering if it's about time for me to get another one. Izhi and I each got one several years ago when we went to Kings Island together. Mine didn't last very long, though.

Okay, so maybe Danneel isn't as sun-cripsed as I originally thought. Just nicely tanned. I'm still amused by Jensen's flip-flops.

Still not sure about the pant's Danneel is wearing, though.

Lunching with the spouses.

Also, entirely too much awwwwwwww going on here. I see Jared is teaching Thomas to wear watch caps/beanies. Also also: Guest star spoiler-y warning-ish thing. (Though it shouldn't really come as any surprise to anyone who's paying attention to . . . well . . . everything.)

With the cute overload and all.

Also x3, Thomas saw wat u did thar and is side-eyeing you so hard.

Do I even really need to mention how great Jensen looks?

I didn't think so. ;-)

Li'l T. (Who will maybe not be so little when all is said and done.) He's got his dad's exquisite eyes.

Was surfing around to give my brain a break, and I found an interesting interview with Alona Tal. Don't know if I want to check out her new show or not, but why I really wanted to post this was because of the photo at the end of the article. It's been a long time since I've seen a photo of a contemporary actress that so strongly said, "Classic Hollywood" to me. Just, wow.

Regarding the timeline for the "Repo Man" flashback--Jim Michaels, in an interview at Winchester Bros., places the flashback in S3. I've already discussed why I think this makes the most sense, so I won't rehash.

I haven't listened to it, but here's the link if you're interested.

Head canon

A long (loooonnnnnggggg) while back, I wrote a fic that implied that Dean does a pretty hilarious Elvis imitation.

Jensen has now made it my head canon.

Go here, scroll about half way down to the video. Be sure to enjoy the scenery along the way.

ETA: If you can't get the vid to load from the LJ page, try it from here. But try the LJ page first. 'Cause there's a lot of pretteh to be appreciated. (Standard disclaimer: I know nothing about the foreign-to-me hosting site, nor can I read the language. Just so ya know. So any sort of, I dunno, questionable pop-up ads or whatever . . . surf at your own risk.)

This weekend was the Chicago Con. (It used to always be on or near my anniversary, but they've moved it to October these past couple of times. It's sad that I know that. :-P )

A picture is worth 1,000 words--most of them unpronounceable. )

I knew it!

Once upon a time, a long while back, during the episode "Shadow," I commented that Sam and Dean must keep a supply of supernatural Neosporin in their first aid kit.

Apparently, I'm not the only one who's come to that conclusion:

Go to about the 0:25 countdown mark.

I am highly amused.

Guillermo del Toro's El Orfanato (The Orphanage)

I've seen quite a lot of horror movies. Some of them are fun, some of them are cheesy, some of them are gross (not really into those), and some of them scare me and make me watch through the holes in my afghans (like the Paranormal Activity movies. Those really creep me out). But I don't think anything has horrified me as much as the resolution to The Orphanage. My paranoid mind recognizes that at its core, it could actually happen, and it just . . . terrifies me.

I'll expand in the comments if asked to do so.

Fic rec

This one is for [livejournal.com profile] ficwriter1966 in particular, but I think anyone would like it.

Fireflies, by de_nugis.

I'm gonna be diligent and warn for language, in case I have any sensitive (or underaged) readers.

Spoilery rec comments behind the cut )

Go. Read. Leave a comment if you've a mind. And come back here and let me know what you thought, if you're so inclined.

[livejournal.com profile] ficwriter1966, you know how I was telling you that I don't know what I want to read, but I'd know it when I read it? Apparently, this fits the bill.

News Flash:

First pictures of Jensen directing his S7 episode have hit the 'net. Warning: Casting spoiler included.

Please allow me to pause a moment and say, "Guh!" That man. I don't even . . .

Now, about the casting spoiler )

A couple of f-listies have asked, "What's Texas sheet cake?" :-)

It is a delicious chocolate cake that is baked not in a cake pan, but on a cookie sheet/jelly roll pan. So it's a huge cake, though not as tall as a standard cake pan cake. The recipes I have (and the one I bought) have a very rich, sweet chocolate frosting for it, but for some reason I seem to remember my mom using a brown sugar or caramel frosting on the Texas sheet cakes she used to make. Because the frosting is so sweet, a little goes a long way.

Turns out the guy had no business being among the general populace. He had a history of shooting at neighbors and deputies, and was actually insane.

Latest from the hometown paper.

My mom told me that the high school is flying the flag at half-mast. As it should be.

Funeral services are reportedly going to be held at my home church on Friday. I wish I could be there.

As mentioned earlier, I did the chocolate-citrus cake again this year. It was quite a success.

Cake after assembly and frosting, but before decorations:

I opted not to do the candied oranges again this year. The sprinkles save me time, and I think they look seasonal and festive:

Cross section of the cake:

This is a very serious and seriously rich cake. When you're done, you know you've eaten cake. One of my cousins told me that she broke out in a sweat it was so much cake.

In other words, good stuff, folks. Good stuff.

Also? Whenever I do the ganache, I think of this riff.
