Anyone seen the TARDIS?
Aug. 17th, 2010 07:36 amSadly, I don't actually LOL much at the internetz anymore. But this icon? Oh, yeah. So much so that I had to share.

Donna Noble
Take Which Doctor Who companion are you? (girls) today!
Created with Rum and Monkey's Personality Test Generator.
You're Donna Noble!
Oi! Wotch it, Martian boy! The Doctor thinks he can spout all kinds of ridiculous technobabble and 'Last Time Lord Angst' at you just because he's from outer space, huh? Well, you're not having any of it! You've got a heart of gold and a will of iron, and you're a rather boggling combination of a romantic idealist and a staunch realist. But you never let logical paradoxes get to you; you prefer to shoehorn the universe into a little box of your own perception. More often than not, it fits... probably because the universe is too intimidated to argue!

Dr. Who season finale
Jul. 7th, 2010 09:21 pmWe are now caught up and have just watched the 2-part Dr. Who season finale.
1. This is an excellent example of why time travel makes my brain hurt.
2. Steven Moffat is a twisted, twisted individual.
3. Now that's how you finish a season of Dr. Who.
I am also convinced that Amy Pond must be distantly related to Donna Noble. Either that, or The Doctor has developed a thing for strong-willed redheads.
I still miss Ten and Donna (and kind of wish that they'd at least mentioned Donna at some point), but that was a very satisfying end to the season. A few tears ending in fist pumps and laughter.
Something old,
Something new,
Something borrowed,
Something blue.
(A penny in your shoe, and a yellow garter, too. . . . But that's for next season. ;-) )

The "mainstream" finally catches on
Sep. 19th, 2007 08:35 pmSo. Churches are finally cluing in to what (Christian) Who fans have known since . . . well, since we started pondering the New Who, I guess.

Dr. Who: "Human Nature"
Aug. 25th, 2007 09:20 amSee my icon? *points to screamingly frustrated Dr. Joel* This would have been my reaction had I not had a sinus headache at the end of Dr. Who last night. Not necessarily because it was the first of a 2-parter. That would have left me screaming, yes. BUT . . .
SciFi Chanel, in its infinite stupidity, has decided to air marathons, as per usual for a federal holiday weekend, next weekend (Labor Day). Hence the brilliant and handsome Doctor has been preempted by an SG-1 viewer's choice marathon. Now, I've got nuthin' against SG-1. But that's just stupid. Especially when they're going to air . . . excuse me? . . . Painkiller Jane in its usual spot. What "brilliant" mind in the scheduling department came up with *that* idea? I'd like to beat them soundly about the head and shoulders with a scallion.
The upshot being that I've got to wait two freakin' weeks for the second half of Dr. Who.
That's just all kinds of wrong.
So I toddled over to
kerravonsen's LJ to see her comments on the show. I see that I could seek out the book on which this ep is based, but I was afraid to read your entry,
kerravonsen, because of the spoiler warnings.
I'll have to figure out a way to distract myself for the next two weeks.
Btw, loved the ep. Am tempted to compose the 2nd half in my head in the meantime.

A Virginia catch-up
Jul. 7th, 2007 12:56 pmWell, then. I think I can finally sit down and share with you the long version of events. Then I'll answer in a separate post
whitemartyr's question regarding the on-stage loss of a skirt.
( My first days in Virginia )
( The first Geek Night )
Now I'll go post about my costume malfunction when I was in Harvey.

Can we say, "root canal"?
Jun. 25th, 2007 08:50 pmSo. I went to my mom and dad's dentist today. It was amusing how excited they were to have me, and to find out that I used to go to that office before I got married.
She took an x-ray and checked for cracks. She said based on the symptoms and the x-ray, she wanted me to be evaluated for a root canal. Oh joy. :-P She assured me that they weren't as bad as they sound, and when I checked the procedure out on WebMD, it sounds horribly painful but is apparently no worse than getting a filling.
So tomorrow I go to Columbus (the endodontist is Springfield couldn't get me in this week) to get an evaluation and possibly the procedure. If I do have to have the procedure done, I hope they can do it all at once. (Apparently, some dentists do the first part--the cleaning out of the tooth--then have you come back later for the reconstruction/crown/whatever.)
I'm most ticked/bummed at the timing of this. This is my last week at work, and I really wanted to enjoy it and get stuff done and have fun. As it is, my heart hurt for a little bit of the day today. Dang, but I'm gonna miss these people. Saying good-bye is so freakin' hard (and depressing). I've lost so many friends to time and space and distance and emotional drift . . . it hurts every freakin' time.
In other news, we've got our first geek night in Culpeper planned. Friday, July 6, with the first 2 eps of Dr. Who season 3. An actual, bona fide geek night. With Whovians and everything. Yippee!

In Like a Lion
Mar. 5th, 2007 11:12 amMarch came in like a lion, as the saying goes. We had cold with heavy rain on March 1, then on the 2nd, March really hit--warmish temperation, wind the kind that always makes me holler, "Auntie Em! Auntie Em! Toto! Toto!" It just felt like MARCH. Then with the snow on Saturday--fog and snow and wind. Today the sun is out.
In other news, the Dr. Who soundtrack makes me smile.
More about the ( fannish facilitator )
It seems I had other stuff to share, but it's slipped my mind.

Fantastic!
Jan. 28th, 2007 10:01 amIf yesterday was any indication, the upcoming year should be a pretty good one.
Geo took me to BD's Mongolian BBQ for lunch for my b-day, where we met up with Cousin J, Mom & Dad, Bro & SIL, and Geo's Shop Owner friend and Wife. I love that restaurant . . . it's good food and watching the grill cooks cook with "swords" . . . great fun.

Character Conversation meme
Jan. 24th, 2007 06:40 am![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
You're at a one of those parties where you end up meeting a cool random person and talking to them about whatever for a few hours. Pick five fictional characters from five different TV shows (current or canceled) that you'd want as your conversation partner and what you'd talk about.
( Only five??? )
Ya like how I slipped those extra folks in there? *g*
ETA: Ha! Here are ( George's Conversation Choices )
Random Dr. Who moment
Jan. 19th, 2007 01:30 pmOne of my very favorite Dr. Who moments is with the 10th Doctor, when he and Rose return at the time of Queen Elizabeth's coronation. I don't know how the conversation gets started, but the Doctor expresses his delight at the inventiveness of the human race for inventing edible ball bearings (nonpareils, of course). In all the universe no one else has even thought of edible ball bearings. Genius!
Or something like that.
He expresses his delight at both the beginning and the end of the ep, and it's one of my favorite parts of said ep. I do wish I had access to the ep (Geo has packed away the discs we burned. And what's the point of that? Of burning a copy of the show, then promptly packing it away where you can't find it?), because I'd love to re-watch said parts, just for a chuckle.
I'm thinking a related icon might be good for food and cooking-related posts, but alas, I have no icon-making talents, and as I'm cheap and on a free LJ account, I must be circumspect in my icon usage. Still, if anyone is bored and feels like giving it a go . . . :-)

The Eighth Doctor
Jan. 17th, 2007 07:42 amLast night, Geo and I watched the Dr. Who movie with the Eighth Doctor. Knowing next to nothing about Dr. Who except what I've seen in the new Who (I pointed out to Geo that Chris Eccleston and David Tennant are "my Doctors"--yes, I've a plurality of Doctors), it was still a rather fun movie. There were so many familiar faces in it, and when I discovered that it was shot in Vancouver, I quickly figured out why. Many supporting actors and extras appeared in TS or SG-1, and the female lead played a villian on OWW (which was *not* shot in Canada, obviously).
I now know that it's been established that under normal circumstances a Time Lord gets 13 life cycles. The interior of the TARDIS (okay, the main "bridge"/control room/ guts of the TARDIS) are essentially what we see in the new program. I like . . . was it
scionofgrace's? . . . explanation about the stripping down of everything during the Time Wars or whatever it was . . . Not sure about the whole Eye of Harmony thing, but even if it was made up for the movie, it was still a pretty good plot device, if just a smidgeon cheesy.
And this Doctor was indeed The Doctor. It's too bad the actor, Paul McGann, didn't have more of an opportunity to play the role, that this 8th Doctor didn't get a longer life span, so to speak. Ah, well.
I don't' know how the movie holds up for die-hard fans, but for this casual enthusiast, it was a pretty fun ride.
