Well, it looks like it's finally happened. Ever since the end of S1, I've gone into each new season dreading the inevitable cancellation of The Unit.

And it's finally happened. :-(

Thankfully, it did not end on a cliffhanger. It sounds like the producers knew this was coming and left a couple story threads that could be picked up if by some miracle they got renewed, but they didn't leave it in an unbearable place.

This article lists some very good reasons why the show shouldn't have been cancelled. And I agree with all of them. The biggest reason I think it should not have been cancelled--and probably the primary reason that it was cancelled--is that it was intelligent drama that wasn't afraid to be both patriotic and controversially ambiguous. And seriously. Who wouldn't want Jonas Blaine on their side?

*salutes The Unit* It's been an honor and a pleasure.

Why, yes. Yes, there is. Not much, but it is there.

And here are the season premieres that merit special attention in our household (sadly, we missed the premiere of The Sarah Connor Chronicles. That's more Geo's show than mine. I'm just along for the ride. Still, Tivo didn't catch the season opener. Drat!):

The Unit – Sunday, Sept. 28, 10:00pm
Woo and hoo!!!! I had feared that this got the ax after the WGA strike. Then I had it confirmed by dodger_winslow, complete with information that Dennis Haysbert (aka Jonas Blaine) had gotten another gig. Which, there pretty much is no Unit without Jonas. But it's on CBS's schedule. Haven't done the research to see if Haysbert is back, but we'll find out this Sunday. Eep.

Pushing Daisies – Wednesday, Oct. 1, 8:00pm
Another "too brilliant for TV" show that thankfully was not killed by The Strike. This is more Geo's show, but I do enjoy it for the quirkiness. Plus, there's pie.

Numb3rs – Friday, Oct. 3, 10:00pm
This is my other "do not call me, do not talk to me, do not even look at me funny when I'm watching this show" show. I have ♥ed it since it first took to the airwaves, and it inspired in me an interest in Rob Morrow, which led to the rediscovery of what is arguably the best TV series in television history, Northern Exposure. But I digress. Numb3rs is love on so many levels for me, and having re-watched the season finale recently, I twinged all over again at where they left it (oh, the melancholy!) and can hardly wait to see how the Brothers Eppes are going to deal with the consequences of last season. Oh, Eppeses, I have missed you so.

CSI – Thursday, Oct. 9, 9:00pm
The one that started it all, in Vegas. Imo, this show has been hit-or-miss since season 6. They've still had some good eps, but it does not attain the level of squee (dancing around the living room in anticipation of a new ep. I kid you not) that it once did. Still, where they left it, and what they've got to deal with . . . GAH!!! [livejournal.com profile] izhilzha has a link to the promo posted in her LJ, and FLAILITY FLAIL FLAIL FLAIL. With flappy hands for good measure. I really hope this show leaves the airwaves while it's still good.

So go. Set up your DVR. There is much juicy TV goodness to be had.

In the meantime, is it Thursday yet?

I need a celebratory icon.

The WGA strike is over. The Guild voted yesterday (by a whopping 92.5% margin) to lift the "restraining order" (read: strike), and all writers who were employed prior to the strike are to return to work today. (They still need to ratify the new contract, though.)

What does this mean? Well, [livejournal.com profile] izhilzha has posted in her LJ a link to TVGuide.com that gives a rundown of what will be coming back, for how many anticipated eps, and when. This delights me, as it means that I have:

1) 4-5 (I read somewhere 6?) more eps of SPN coming.
2) 5-9 more eps of N3 coming.

And as [livejournal.com profile] ficwriter1966 posted in her LJ, Jensen informed some folks that he's expecting to get back to work in "about a month." Woo and hoo! ([livejournal.com profile] ficwriter1966, if you read this, I hope you don't mind the link. I have a thing about citing my sources.)

Though I'm less excited about it, it also means that I have more eps of CSI coming. Sadly, the fate of The Unit is undetermined. But I think I can live with that.

For Geo, it means more eps of The Office.

So, yeah. I think I'm going through a pretty good time right now. Not as distraught about RL issues as I was a couple weeks ago, and this adds to the "good" side of the scales. Hallelujah!

[livejournal.com profile] whitemartyr tagged me for this one:

You're at a one of those parties where you end up meeting a cool random person and talking to them about whatever for a few hours. Pick five fictional characters from five different TV shows (current or canceled) that you'd want as your conversation partner and what you'd talk about.

Only five??? )

Ya like how I slipped those extra folks in there? *g*

Didn't start HP1 last night. Instead we watched The Unit on DVD. George has really taken to the show, which I find amusing )

So that's what I did last night--folded laundry and watche TU with the hubby.
