The Eighth Doctor

Last night, Geo and I watched the Dr. Who movie with the Eighth Doctor. Knowing next to nothing about Dr. Who except what I've seen in the new Who (I pointed out to Geo that Chris Eccleston and David Tennant are "my Doctors"--yes, I've a plurality of Doctors), it was still a rather fun movie. There were so many familiar faces in it, and when I discovered that it was shot in Vancouver, I quickly figured out why. Many supporting actors and extras appeared in TS or SG-1, and the female lead played a villian on OWW (which was *not* shot in Canada, obviously).
I now know that it's been established that under normal circumstances a Time Lord gets 13 life cycles. The interior of the TARDIS (okay, the main "bridge"/control room/ guts of the TARDIS) are essentially what we see in the new program. I like . . . was it
scionofgrace's? . . . explanation about the stripping down of everything during the Time Wars or whatever it was . . . Not sure about the whole Eye of Harmony thing, but even if it was made up for the movie, it was still a pretty good plot device, if just a smidgeon cheesy.
And this Doctor was indeed The Doctor. It's too bad the actor, Paul McGann, didn't have more of an opportunity to play the role, that this 8th Doctor didn't get a longer life span, so to speak. Ah, well.
I don't' know how the movie holds up for die-hard fans, but for this casual enthusiast, it was a pretty fun ride.

That's why I really like the Big Finish 8th-Doctor audio-plays -- because they give him a longer life-span.
