Okay, this is going to be messy. I'll try to keep it focused and not go chasing down too many rabbit holes, but . . . well, here we go . . .

When last I wrote about this . . .  )

That sound like somebody saying no-wait-stop to you? )

Well, that doesn't seem as thorough as I'd hoped to make it, but I think I covered most everything. Overall, I think this opens up some interesting possibilities for the next two episode, and I hope they make something juicy (not a TDK Slammer) out of it. I'd also love some delicious fic over the summer hiatus.

All in all, looking forward to Friday. )

Went to a jewelry party last night. This is not your average home party plan jewelry party. This jewelry is all unique and handmade by my former boss's best friend. No two pieces are alike. I bought a garnet piece several years ago, and it's one of my go-to pieces that I absolutely love. Last night I bought a strand of multi-colored pearls and an "energy" piece (for lack of a better name), pearl with a swirling ceramic pendant.

I'm hoping that the next time Former Boss has such a party, that there will be a piece such that I described to Jewelry Maker.

It's a gorgeous day today. And here it is, 2:00pm, and I've frittered away so much of the day that I'm still in my pj's.

Oy.

The thought just occurred to me: Dean is slightly out of phase.

I'll write about it more in my highlights post )

In the US, November is National Adoption Awareness Month.

I had no idea. I'm doing some of my required reading, and feeling a wee bit excited about it. I'm also made quite aware of how much I have to learn, and how much I have to do.

Thinky thoughts. )

I know a few of my f-list who might be reading this have experience with adoption, and I'd love to hear about your experiences, if you'd like to share. I'll screen comments in case you want to keep your comment private, though I think I have to unscreen it to reply.

And thanks to my f-listies who comment with encouragement when I'm feeling not so confident in myself and entertaining self-doubts. *smish*

We've only got a couple days before the new ep, so I thought I'd get this posted while it's still somewhat relevant to where we are in the season.

I've been seeing a lot of discussion on the interwebz, discussion both villifying Dean for his actions, as well as taking up for Dean. The extremes to which these arguments have gone make me somewhat uncomfortable. And I've seen the word "absolutely" used in at least one instance. "Dean was absolutely right to do what he did." I'm sure someone has made the converse argument: "Dean was absolutely wrong to do what he did."

But this is not about *absolutes*, it's about moral ambiguity. )

O beautiful for patriot dream
That sees beyond the years
Thine alabaster cities gleam
Undimmed by human tears!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!

"Fresh Blood."

Written by Sera Gamble.

Directed by Kim Manners.

It has two of the best brother scenes in the entire series.

Even the Gordon-Kubrick scene has a particular poignancy.

Gamble and Manners: a winning combination.

(Well, Manners and anybody is pretty much a winning combination.)

I watched Bugs today.

This time around, I am struck by Dean's line, something to the effect of "Manicured lawns, 'Honey, I'm home.' I'd blow my brains out." This, of course, immediately brought to mind the opening of S6, as well as the recurring references to Dean's secret dream that he'd drop hints about previously throughout the series.

Even as early as "Skin," previous to this comment in "Bugs," the 'shifter, downloading Dean's thoughts, mentioned that Dean had dreams of his own. At the end of S1, Dean mentions having wanted to be a firefighter when he was little. John says he wants Dean to have a home.

I can't help but think that this line about Dean's aversion to "normalcy" . . . He's trying to convince himself as much as anyone. Heck, maybe he even believes it at the time. He probably does. But over the course of the series, he's acknowledged or admitted that part of him, deep down, wants a home and a family. Even if he doesn't think he can have it, even if he's resigned himself to not having it and has thrown himself back into hunting, it's there, it's part of him, and it has been since the beginning of the series.

Oh, Dean.

Also, as I was driving home from work today, I was listening to my S1/S2 mix CD that I created a long while back, and I was thinking about the music they used for the opening of S6. And you know? It occurred to me that even with its ups and downs, I really rather like S6 for what it is. It doesn't have the same feel that the show did in early seasons, but I didn't really expect it to. The characters have been through too much. But taken on its own merit, I like it. It had its flaws, to be sure, but overall, it kept me entertained.

So there ya go.

Early SPN

You know? I miss Dean's leather jacket.

Not because I miss it per se, but because it is gone not by choice of the actor/production staff, but as a result of someone's thievery.

Truth be told, there are a lot of eps wherein Dean wears a canvas jacket. And much of the time, it doesn't even register which he's wearing--leather or canvas. They are both equally functional for the character in a given situation. (Though as the guys joked about at a con, Dean could hide a lot of stuff in that leather coat.)

But watching the early eps of the season--before it was established to have been "John's" jacket in any real sense, it was Dean's. And it was a part of Dean's character.

Given the growth and changes the character has gone through in S6, I'm not sure how I'd feel about it showing back up again. But you know? I'd really like that to be the choice of the production team, rather than someone somewhere with sticky fingers who figured they'd take for themselves not only something of the character, but something that Jensen probably would have liked to have taken with him when the series wraps.

I don't know why, but this morning as I was getting ready for work, I was thinking about the significance of Dean's leather jacket, and what I'd like to say about it to Jensen if I ever got the opportunity. As I don't expect to ever be able to attend a convention, I don't expect I'll ever actually get the opportunity to say this. So I'm writing it out here. Behind the cut for those not interested in thoughts on leather.

My name's Felicia, and my comment is for Jensen. )

As I predicted, I like this ep better and better with each re-watch. In fact, had they not already done two previous meta eps, (and perhaps had I been unspoiled for it) I think I would really have liked it better at first blush than I did.

This way to the thinky . . .  )
