If this doesn't make you smile, even just a little bit, there might be something wrong.

Snowflakes and vanilla.

This evening, after a whole Christmas season without a flake of snow, we now have a nice skiff on the ground. Big, pretty snowflakes earlier, and it makes things look so much prettier this time of year.

And I clap and giggle with glee now that I have a whole bottle of Mexican vanilla in my possession. Whee!!!

I'm very excited. One of our friends is going to Texas for Christmas, and he asked George if there's anything he could bring back for me. Geo, being the sharp thinker he is (and maybe missing the nice zip that his lamingtons usually have) told Friend that I'd really like a bottle of La Vencedora vanilla. This is the best vanilla (this, and the vanilla I got in Honduras years and years ago) I've ever used. The bottle of La Vencedora my MiL brought back from Texas many years ago finally ran out, and we haven't found anything to match.

So after the new year, I'll have a new bottle of Mexican vanilla. Yay! \o/ And my baking will be zippy again!

The sun is shining and the crocuses are starting to bloom. It's nippy, but I have the back door open onto the screened in porch. The fresh air is nice, and the kitties are enjoying it.

And they played "The Weight" on the radio on my way home. I've never heard the actual cut before.

All in all, not a bad day.

Monday was very windy. Like "Auntie Em! Auntie Em! Toto! Toto!" windy. Our recycling bin got blown across the yard and landed in a bush. Cans and bottles strewn all over. It didn't quite feel like tornado weather, though. Just windy.

We've got the windows and doors open today. The fresh air is wonderful *breathes deep*

Simple things in life make me happy. Like being able to use Dove soap. It's been so very, very long since I've been able to use an "over the counter" beauty bar on my face. Honestly, I can't remember how long it's been since I haven't had to take "special precautions." I love Dove's nectarine and white ginger beauty bar. The fragrance is wonderful, and the lather is rich and smooth. It's kinda silly how happy it makes me.

I've also discovered that I can wear regular lip glosses and lipsticks again. A few years back, I developed a really bad reaction to anything but Wild'Erb lip balm. And I'd have to wear that under the one kind of Mary Kay lipstick I could wear. But recently I've been wearing a L'Oreal lipstick I got at Sundance with no trouble, and the Sephora freebee I got hasn't caused a reaction either. And I've been wearing Bonnie Bell lip gloss. Seriously. Simple, everyday things, but I so enjoy them.

The Amish deli we frequent had Texas sheet cake for sale yesterday. It's been so long since I've had Texas sheet cake, I couldn't resist. Yum!

I love my new beauty shop.

They schedule me in with less than a day's notice.
The gal gives an awesome cut the way I want it.
They gave me a cookbook after my first appointment.
They gave me a goodie bag for Christmas that included candy, nail polish, a couple samples of (what I assume is) conditioner, an ink pen, and a pocket date book.

Plus they're really chatty and chipper.

Yes, it's the little things in life.

Burgers and corn-on-the-cob on the grill.

The first pumpkin pie of the season.

Nomnomnom.

And later, new epi.

Life is pretty good.

. . . a Southern boy saying, "Thank you, ma'am."

. . . the smell of pumpkin pie baking in the kitchen.*

. . . new blue jeans that fit and look good.**

*Honest, I thought I was gonna cry when I pulled it out of the oven, it made me feel that contented.

**I finally found a pair of boot cut jeans that don't make my hips look like they need "Wide Load" stitched across the back pockets. I still prefer straight leg jeans, but these boot cut look pretty darn good.
