Usually, I would be posting about the highlights of the previous year right now. But I'm so far behind, I need to journal my Christmas first.

September 15: George's b-day. We went out for dinner at the Bavarian Chef last night to celebrate. I was also very tickled by the present I got him, and he was very tickled, too. I got him a Presto waffle maker. Waffles for breakfast on Saturday! Woo hoo!

September 16 (today): We finally got our paperwork finished and delivered it to the adoption agency. We're still working on our reading material, but we had a nice sit-down with our social worker. Now on to the next step.

On the way home, we stopped at a nifty little grill/tavern that we've driven past a lot but never tried. It was very nice. Relaxed, and good food.

Tomorrow we're inviting people in for strawberry cake and homemade ice cream to celebrate Geo's b-day.

And next week . . .

SPN S7 begins! I must admit, I'm getting a little excited. I'm also trying to figure out when I'm going to marathon S6. I got the Blu-Ray (still debating whether or not I should have gone with the standard), and I want to get through all the episodes to make sure they're okay before the new season starts.

Geo and I went back to Ohio for Christmas. It was really strange, and kind of didn't really feel like Christmas. This is the first Christmas we've spent somewhere other than in our own house.

We left Thursday. Travel was reasonably smooth, though there was snowy travel in the mountains in Maryland. No surprise there.

Then came back Monday.

A warm thank you to [livejournal.com profile] smalltwndreamer and [livejournal.com profile] luvwinchesters for the v-gifts. They came at a much-needed time. Thank you to [livejournal.com profile] just_ruth for the card. It arrived yesterday. And I've already thanked Izhi for enabling my habit the mags. :-)

And that, in a nutshell, was my Christmas weekend.

A lazy day

I don't know why, but I feel really exhausted right now. It's been a lazy day, and I could just sleep.

Yesterday was good. Had calls from Li'l Bro, Mom & Dad, and MiL. This was the first Christmas for both Geo and me that we're completely away from our families with no plans to visit. Instead, we went to some friends' house. But I'm getting ahead of things.

Yesterday I had my b-day party. Geo spent the day baking a molasses cake with date filling from scratch. It was most assuredly a learning experience, but it turned out very well.

For dinner, we went with friends from his work to the Indian restaurant that has become quite a favorite. The food is tasty, and the service is excellent and friendly. They even gave me a slice of cheesecake with a candle, and everyone else got rice pudding. Yummy!

Then we all came back to our house for cake and ice cream. I used my "shock and awe" technique to blow out my candles. It's a technique I developed by watching my cousin several years ago, and since then, I've never had a problem. And everyone is always shocked and awed that all the candles go out in one quick puff. Geo compares it to putting out an oil rig fire. Heh.

So cake, ice cream, and pressies. All the cards were very nice and sweet, and for gifts I received a candle, a hand crocheted scarf, and a book to help me develop a new skill set. I love it and can't wait to try something from it. Hee!

I forgot to mention that for my (real) b-day, Geo gave me the S4 set of Dr. Who. (The most recent one to air in the States. The Donna year. That was S4, right?) I still haven't been able to bring myself to re-watch any of it, but I really should, as I really like Donna.

It was a very nice gathering, and I got to talk sci-fi shows a little bit with the young (late teen/early 20s) boys that came with their parents.

All in all, very nice.

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the LORD Almighty will accomplish this. ~Isaiah 9:6-7

“Do not be afraid; for see--I am bringing you good news of great joy for all the people: to you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is the Messiah, the Lord."

"Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace among those whom he favors."

Merry Christmas to all!
