Finally, I can catch up on some stuff without having to sit in our uncomfy computer chair (we definitely need a new one).

I have my laptop back. And it is recharging.

I can now do everything I've been putting off, saying, "Oh, I'll have to do that when I get my laptop back."

I am currently transferring everything from my old iBook to my new MacBook. It is shiny and new. It is the latest model, so at least for today, I'm state of the art. :-) It will also be so very, very much faster, and I'll be able to burn DVDs in addition to CDs. And I'll have all sorts of memory space and it will be shiny and awesome.

Yay!

RIP laptop

My laptop, it has given up the ghost. Hopefully, Geo will be able to figure out how to boot it up in order to transfer everything that's on the hard drive onto a new one. If all else fails, he says he can remove the hard drive and hook it up to his computer (which I'm on now) to pull everything off.

So we're off to the big computer store far away to get me a new one. I'd hoped to have more time to save up more money, but, you know, I don't think I can last that long.

I'm going to be away from my laptop starting tomorrow through Sunday. I'll still be checking my e-mail, so if there's anything anyone must get in touch with me about, or anything I MUST KNOW, drop me a PM.

I'll be visiting with extended family, and given that there's a con in Vancouver this weekend, it would be really not good for me to spend all weekend waiting for vids and pix to get posted *g*, so I'm shutting off the iBook and putting it away.

So . . . is this another change in internet networking trends?

First, it was a mailing list (angus, I think). And I was happy there.

Then, it was YahooGroups. And that was good, too. Particularly since I could read it as a message board without having it come to my e-mail if I wanted.

Then it was LJ, and things became less centralized and more spread out and not so easily accessible, but I can record my own thoughts and activities, but still . . . not as focused . . .

Now there's talk of the Dreamwidth thing. Are people jumping ship from LJ for the next trend?

I mean, I'm already on Facebook (mostly for family), and [livejournal.com profile] whitemartyr caught me on a low day and utched me into joining Twitter. I don't need one more place I'm not gonna keep up with . . .

Btw, I'd still be interested in an easy way to download or save my LJ to my computer. Any suggestions?

Geo and I are currently praying for guidance in regards to having a bebe. We've got an appointment tomorrow with a reproductive specialist, and I'm very nervous and scared about said appointment. But that's another story.

I've been looking on-line this evening for print-out-able basal temperature graphs. And I came across this.

I had to laugh. Because of course something by Apple would have an "i" connected to it.

As an aside, if you use iTunes, and you forget your password, you can get it back by clicking iForgot.

Bwah!

A heads-up

Just a heads-up to let y'all know that I'm probably going to disappear for an undetermined amount of time. Geo is back this weekend to start dismanteling and packing things up (including the accouterments for the computer, i.e., wireless access). Monday and Tuesday the movers come to pack up the house, Wednesday they load the truck, and Geo heads back to Va. Then I'm staying with my folks until the end of the month, and then I leave.

I might be on and off the computer at mis padres, but probably not much. However, I'll be checking e-mails, so if anyone really needs to e-mail me, reply to this post, and I'll send you my new e-mail address. Make sense?

Well, it seems I spoke too soon. The laptop is not fixed. The screen works, but it fritzes out, and the cursor gets stuck. So I shall do the majority (read: probably all) of my computer stuff from the big one. *sigh* It's like a big weight on my motivation to write. I'm so used to being able to move about the house when I want a change of scenery. Or to be able to be in the living room working on my 'puter while Geo is watching TV or something.

C'est la vie, I suppose.

Yes, Igor, it lives!

Geo took my laptop to Mac-Head Friend yesterday, and together they performed some sort of iVoodoo with a heat gun and resuscitated my dead laptop. It's alive! It's slower than it used to be, and the cursor freezes more readily, but, you know, you can't really expect miracles.

Still gonna look for a newer one. But all my stuff is there! Woo and hoo!

Of course, now I have to transfer everything I worked on in the big iMac back to my iBook. *eye roll*

Or is that *iRoll*?

In other news, there's an actual layer of snow on the ground this morning, the first one all season. There was a skiff the other day, but that was gone by mid-morning. This looks like it might actually stick around. *Now* I start humming "It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas." Though traditionally our blizzards hit on or around my b-day, so I could start humming "It's beginning to look a lot like my birthday" (no delusions of godhood implied).

Well, the laptop is dead. Or rather, we can't afford to bring it back to life. The logic board is fried, and though we suspect that it is just the visual part of the logic board, still, since it's all one piece, we'd have to replace the whole thing, and that's, sadly, just not gonna happen. If we're going to put that much money into a computer, I might as well get a newer iBook than the one I have (it's 2 generations old, I guess, and not worth the money it would take to repair).

So, right.
