The Lord giveth:

Yesterday, I got official word in writing that the Lord giveth me, via CSCC, a raise. Woo and hoo!!! It's retroactive to the beginning of the season, and since I'll probably get the retro in a lump sum, this is a good thing, as the timing is very convenient for putting it in the bank and saving it for the move.

Or . . . replacing the laptop.



And the Lord taketh away:

Got the official word on my laptop. It's dead, Jim. I wrote earlier about the logic board being fried. Apparently, this was a flaw that Apple addressed a while back, but of course my li'l 'puter was working fine until *after* the free repairs/warranty/whatever expired. And having surfed the 'Net looking for a replacement, we've discovered that it will cost the same to repair the current 'puter as it would to replace it with the same kind (iBook G3). And we're definitely not replacing it with the same because Apple no longer supports it. So . . . the raise might be going to purchase as newer (read: refurbished newer model) laptop.

Geo is going to try something first, though. I mean, I will need a new laptop, but he found on the 'Net directions from someone in . . . Europe? . . . who fixed the problem themselves, re-soldering the separated pieces together by sitting a little tin of oil with a wick on top of the piece that needs to be fixed. The guy wrote an article on it and everything, so we've got the directions on how to do it. It just looks really hilarious in the pictures, fixing a laptop with what is essentially a candle. Bwah! But since we're not going to get the thing repaired, we might as well try (after we transfer the rest of my data, of course).

I suppose this is one way to clean out a computer . . . fry the innards and get a new one. Sheesh.

So, anyway, the Lord taketh my computer, but giveth me a raise with which to replace my computer . . . . so He giveth me a new one, eventually.

Oy. Craziness! I'm glad you got the raise, though. That's exciting! :) So, hooray for a new laptop when it comes.

It really is. :-) It just feels a little anti-climactic right now because they've been "working on it" for . . . since October? Something like that. But I'm sure I'll be ready to celebrate when it shows up in the paycheck next week. Hallelujah!

hooray for a new laptop when it comes

Oh, lawsy, yes. I'm so ready to have a laptop again. But I'm having a love/hate relationship with technology in general right now, so . . . *snerk* Still, it's kinda fun shopping. :-) Have you ever been to an Apple store? It's like a toy store for computer geeks. Which I'm not, but still . . .
