In lieu of a Halloween costume this year, I've decided to dress as one of my favorite Halloween poems--gold sweater and black jeans.

Black and Gold
by Nancy Byrd Turner

Everything is black and gold,
Black and gold, tonight:
Yellow pumpkins, yellow moon,
Yellow candlelight;

Jet-black cats with golden eyes
Shadows black as ink,
Firelight blinking in the dark
With a yellow blink

Black and gold, black and gold,
Nothing in between--
When the world turns black and gold
Then it's Halloween!

My dad's memorial service was today. It was a beautiful service with, I think, more laughter than tears. But I miss him.

The minister shared this poem and gave a very hopeful, uplifting message, which soothed my heart quite a lot.

Still, I miss Daddy.

Go Down, Death )

Give us shadows and give us gloom
Broken glass in a motel room
Something fun we can all exhume
And give it all tonight!

~from "When You're an Addams," The Addams Family: A New Musical

Hm . . . Now that I think about, this also describes a standard Winchester hunt. Heh.
feliciakw: (Halloween)
When hinges creak in doorless chambers,
And strange and frightening sounds echo through the halls,
Whenever candlelights flicker where the air is deathly still,
That is the time when ghosts are present,
Practicing their terror with ghoulish delight.

~Your Ghost Host, The Haunted Mansion

The Changling--an exercise in classic spook movie technique. Spoilers. )

October has kind of gotten away from us this year. Will try to post a catch-all catch-up. Maybe with a picspam.

In the meantime, happy haunting to all who enjoy this fun festival.
