A question for my readers

As we begin a new season of SPN, I find myself contemplating the future of my long and rambly commentaries. I've been doing them since the beginning of S4, so for three whole seasons. But the person who initially asked me to do them is no longer active on LJ, and others of my f-list have become busy with RL or have become disillusioned with the show.
This brings to mind a few questions.
I know that one or two of you read my long commentaries, but it seems that if anyone is inclined to comment on my thoughts, you'll do so in my initial "react-o-matic" style post immediately following the ep.
So. Have a poll:

Date: 2011-09-23 09:59 pm (UTC)A friend of Izhi's is always welcome here.
In fact, it's Izhi's fault I'm an SPN addict. Here's a brief re-cap (http://feliciakw.livejournal.com/95736.html).
Between Izhi, my husband, and Jensen Ackles, I've pretty much been sucked in and remained sucked in for the past four years.
Also, I appreciate your appreciation of my appreciation of Jensen Ackles. :-) There is much to appreciate with that man.
If you're so inclined to crash around my journal, things are pretty obviously tagged--Jensen Ackles, vids, SPN, season, rambly, etc.
Welcome aboard, and thank you for introducing yourself!

Date: 2011-09-23 09:42 pm (UTC)In principle, I'm all for long and thinky meta. However, I still won't be reading the long and thinky meta for a show I don't follow.
I'll just continue reading your other posts!

Date: 2011-09-23 09:53 pm (UTC)No worries.
Thank you, though, for participating. :-) I don't do polls often, but I'm trying to suss out the expenditure of energy on my long commentaries.

Date: 2011-09-25 11:23 pm (UTC)If you'd be interested. If not, that's cool.
(SPN gets compared to Buffy a lot, though I can't really speak to that point, as I could never really get into Buffy.)
Also, I hope your night went as well as could be expected under the circumstances, and that you finally got a little bit of sleep. I also hope you get a new CPAP soon.

As well as could be expected, I suppose. But "well", no.
Imagine you are flying from the UK to Australia (that's a 21-hour trip) in economy class, with a screaming baby. That's how my night went.
However, I am now in posession of a new CPAP machine, on hire for one month. As soon as I finish a quick lunch and get it set up, I am all for dreamland.

Date: 2011-09-23 10:00 pm (UTC)Not really looking forward to the show myself, I'll be honest, which is why I had to check the comment thing. I'm not watching live, I'm dvr'ing and reading reactions before I decide to watch, FF, or delete an episode unwatched. I've got to see some serious changes as well as a change in showrunner attitude before I re-commit.
Of course, even if it's wonderful, I still have a real conflict with Fringe, which I love and honestly do think is the better show in general. Then at the end of Oct Grimm begins on NBC, and if I like that too, it's gonna get ugly in that timeslot (thank goodness for On-Demand!). *ack* So SPN could still be dvr material even if I think it's a better show this year. ;)

Date: 2011-09-23 10:07 pm (UTC)Oh, thank you. I take that as a big compliment.
I totally get that there are other shows that some fen (yourself included) like better. That's why DVRs were invented. :-) I've heard a lot of good things about Fringe, I've just never made the effort to check it out. But I do get switching shows when you've found something that interests you more. CSI used to be my "Don't call me, don't talk to me, don't even look at me funny" show on Thursday nights, which is one of the reasons I never checked out SPN before I was introduced to it on DVD. Then when I did see it, and got kinda hooked, CSI got displaced on the viewing schedule in favor of SPN.
I hope the show is able to pull itself up for you. For me, I'm going in with very few spoilers and no "expectations." Honestly? Right now I'm just ready for new eps and Jensen/Dean back on my TV screen.
BTW, did I mention that I really like your icon? Heh.

Yay for show!

Date: 2011-09-24 12:25 am (UTC)I'm another regular reader of your lj without ever having commented previously. I enjoy reading your take on the episodes and find even if I don't completely agree with all your thoughts I love that your reviews are more positive overall than many others on the net. I am one of the most technically challenged people I know, yet even I can manage the on/off switch on a remote control and sometimes I can even find the switch to change the channel! I understand other people are completely entitled to their own opinions and if they choose to be surrounded by negativity it is their own choice, I choose to live a life full of joy, happiness and positive energy, which is another reason I am drawn to your journal.
I have watched Supernatural since it first aired and love it warts and all. The entire first season I was completely unaware there was an online fandom so it wasn't until after the season one final when I had to resort to the internet to find out what was going to happen and when my show was going to return did I discover the darker world of the fandom. Talk about an eyeopener!!! Even now I think I prefer the term 'dedicated viewer' rather than 'fan'.
I hope you will continue to post your thinky thoughts and I wish you love and many blessings in your life.
Anita

I . . . *blink blink* Thank you. Thank you so much! :-) I'm glad and encouraged to hear that my journal contributes in a positive manner.

Indeed. The dark underbelly of fandom. Ah, yes.
Ah, on-line fandom. I've been involved in on-line fandom since . . . golly . . . over 10 years, at least. I had a hunch going in that there were going to be corners I'd want to avoid, sandboxes I didn't want to play in, but it seems like each fandom experience gets wilder and more outlandish. Well, no. I can't say that. Every fandom I've been in has had its dark, outlandish elements. If my journal offers you a little corner of escapism from that, I'm glad!
I have indeed continued my thinky thoughts this season. If the season opener is any indication, it appears there will be much thinky to come.
Love and blessings to you as well, Anita. Thanks so much for reading and taking the time to comment.

Date: 2011-10-06 10:25 pm (UTC)IMO, the season has gotten off to a great start, and I'm enjoying it very much. If you'd like to read my squee-ful posts, you're very welcome to.
In regards to our different views on the show, I think we each hold equal responsibility for expressing our views. If you have bitchiness you want to express, but you suspect that it will not benefit my state of mind in my LJ, it's your choice to take responsibility for your decision to post. The same goes for me. It's my own choice whether or not to read your LJ (which I often do), and my own responsibility whether or not to disagree with you in your LJ, where you freely vent your frustrations. We're both adults; I think we can each take responsibility for our posts and comments, yeah? :-)
If, however, you do not think you can read my LJ without being bitchy, your decision to refrain from reading is probably for the best. In other words, I'm not going to tell you *not* to read my LJ. But I do think we both need to use our best judgment when we comment on each other's LJs.
