As some of you know, I love doing theater. My first love is acting, but directing, ADing, SMing, and costuming work, too. As some of you also know, I worked costume and wardrobe on My Mummy, the independent movie Geo co-wrote/starred in/co-directed. The woman I worked with was amazing--I love her to pieces--and she at one point told me I'd missed my calling. I should have been a costumer. "But I prefer acting," said I. "I know," said she, "but you should have been a costumer."

Well, now not only does the fan!girl in me and the actress in me have reason to love Jensen, but the costumer in me does, too.

It's been said at previous cons--and it's in the commentary on The Inch Hero--that Jensen is the one who picked out Priestly's kilt. That, my friends, was a bold and daring move, both character appropriate and hilarious.

Now I come to learn that it was Jensen who picked out the gym shorts he wore as Coach Roth in "After School Special." Yes, my friends, he did that to himself. I cannot properly express how amused I am by that.

Which takes me back to an early con comment he made stating that he wanted some ghost hunter-type accouterments for Dean, which resulted in his amulet and his bracelet.

I love that Jensen as an actor understands his characters enough to see where the humor can be had, and how costuming choices make the character. "Clothes make the man," as the saying goes. And I love that Jensen is smart enough to play with that.

This concludes today's session of thespic enthusiasm.

You know? "Bugs" gets a bad rap. It really does. Okay, so it's not the best ep of the series. But there's a lot of good stuff here:

Brother banter! Hustling pool! "The way we were raised was jacked." "You watch Oprah?" \o/

Character background! \o/

John checked up on Sam at Stanford! \o/

Dean starting to understand Sam! Sam starting to face this split with his dad! \o/

Steam shower!!! \o/ \o/ \o/

Plus I rather wish they'd used more Native American lore in their stories.

Also? This was the ep that delighted me in that they acknowledged the common misconception that accompanies two men traveling together (or in this case, house hunting together) and promptly mocked it in all its absurdity. Because really. To an outsider, the initial misconception might be understandable (my own personal experience makes explaining my feelings regarding people's misconceptions in this regard . . . complicated). But once you know they're brothers, it's absurd. Suffice to say that I was delighted at the brothers' reactions to and usage of the misconception. And Dean's using it to embarrass Sam always gets a chuckle out of George.

Also also? Bugs. If you've lived with Giant Evil Crickets From Outer Space in your basement (which I have), you can appreciate the ickiness of a plague of bugs.

Also x3? The opening shot of the reflection off the puddle outside the bar. Kim Manners, you are missed, sir.

Which brings me to the correlated observation that this ep reminds me of the XF ep with the bugs.

And speaking of absurd, what's not to love about insta-morning?

So there ya go. Why "Bugs" deserves a second look. Oh, it's no "Bloody Mary" or "Hookman." But seriously. Brothers, banter, and backstory. What's not to love?
