Dudes! It was AWESOME!
Tonight we went to see Bride of Frankenstein on the big screen at Geo's work. But that wasn't the awesome part. (For some reason, that movie always makes my eyelids heavy.)
No, the awesome part was their first pre-feature featurette. Which was an amazing 35mm print of . . .
Michael Jackson's Thriller! That's right MTV fans, from back in the day when MTV was worth watching because they actually ran, you know, music videos that were worth watching. Thriller. In all its glory. ON THE BIG SCREEN!!!!
Yes, I wore out a cassette of that album and had to buy another back in the day. Yes, I had a VHS of the "making of" documentary. Yes, I was a huge Michael Jackson fan before he went all weird. Hey, I was a high school freshman. What do you expect? Yes, I know the choreography, and yes, I can sing along.
And dudes, the print looked amazing! It was so much FUN to see it on the BIG SCREEN! I was grinning the whole time! It was the best part of the evening.
The second featurette was Tim Burton's Frankenweenie. Which was kinda cute and rather funny and had a lot of in-jokes that I didn't get because I've never seen the original Frankenstein.
But THRILLER! On the BIG SCREEN! So. Much. Fun!

Date: 2008-11-01 02:53 am (UTC)I was in Jerusalem (Israel) when the video for Thriller came out. I clearly remember sitting outside a cafe, a TV set across the street, and everyone stopped what they were doing to watch it.
And now, my teenagers think they're cool because they have the video on their iPods. Tsk.

Date: 2008-11-05 07:50 pm (UTC)I remember this video being played every night at 9:00pm (I think) on MTV, and my little bro and I would wait anxiously. It was sponsored/"brought to you by" Miller beer, and they had some hilarious commercials. (I still remember the backwards-speaking aliens in search of "Rellim Reeb! Rellim Reeb!")
Hee!

Date: 2008-11-05 08:02 pm (UTC)I don't remember aliens, but I remember frogs. Budweiser had just arrived in Israel that year. No Miller...
