That's fantastic. There should be dozens of stories playing with the line and its interpretations. Crowley as a sociological natural force. "They're calling you a sickness/a disease of the mind." (I could swear that on one of the choruses Petty sings, "/a sign of the times.")

And of course he's also a sentient beast that pays attention, which is why he doesn't underestimate the boys. Everyone else sees that they're improbable, even ridiculous, and looks away; Crowley looks at results.
