When hinges creak in doorless chambers,
And strange and frightening sounds echo through the halls,
Whenever candlelights flicker where the air is deathly still,
That is the time when ghosts are present,
Practicing their terror with ghoulish delight.

~Your Ghost Host, The Haunted Mansion

Watched The Changling, starring George C. Scott, two nights ago. Oh. My. Word. That movie just gives me the classic creeps. It's wonderful.

The story itself has kind of an interesting twist, but for the most part, anyone who watches SPN or horror probably won't find the story itself to be unusual.

However.

The production's use of sound, camera angles, lighting, and as Geo points out, wide angle lenses, just freaks me out. The movie could be used in an intro film study class for its use of sound to create atmosphere. And some of the things that freak me out the most are some of the easiest things to do. Things showing up when they're not supposed to. Weird camera angles. Whispery voices. And perhaps the most traumatic . . . well . . . I won't say, but really disturbing.

Perhaps the two freakiest scenes are the pounding throughout the house and the ghost writing.

If you can get a hold of it for your Halloween viewing, I highly recommend.

*shudder*

October has kind of gotten away from us this year. Will try to post a catch-all catch-up. Maybe with a picspam.

In the meantime, happy haunting to all who enjoy this fun festival.

The Changeling is one of my favs! The scene when the ball comes bouncing down the steps?! Holy Crap!

The ball. THE BALL!!!

In "Are You There, God? . . . Dean Winchester," when the ball comes rolling down the stairs at Bobby's house. I totally thought of this movie.

Also, being chased by an empty wheelchair is completely horrifying. Just FYI.

Boo!

Eek! *breathe* Don't scare me like that.

Was that the creepiest wheelchair EVA?! It was simultaneous scary and heartbreaking. The same for his sad little voice.

The sound of him banging against the sides of the tub reminded me of another awesome classic, the original The Haunting. That's probably my all time favorite horror flick. The running joke dialogue between my sister and I was "Why are you holding my hand so tight?" "I'm not holding your hand..." Eeeek!

Figured it was. :-)

Oh! The Haunting! *squealy clappy hands* I love that movie.

Faces in the wallpaper. "Who was holding my hand?"

The first time I saw that movie, Geo was living in a big, dark, drafty Victorian house. I was sitting on the couch with the big, dark, cavernous dining room at my shoulder. *shudder*

Back to The Changeling: The banging in the bathtub is just really freakin' disturbing, even moreso when the sound is identified.

My commentary this recent time watching went something like this:

Weird sounds in the pipe and plumbing: "He should call Jay and Grant (the Ghost Hunters, who are RotoRooter guys by day) to check the plumbing."

Continued ghost activity after finding the well: "He's got the bones! Salt and burn them! I'm tellin' ya."

I was toying with the idea of going to see Paranormal Activity 3 in the theater, but I think I'd rather watch it in the safety of my own home. Oy.

I still haven't watched Paranormal Activity, and don't plan to. I saw one brief scene (the one with the guy sliding off the bed or something) and I haven't had a peek since. Some tell me it isn't that scary, but I'm still not going there. I use to could watch that stuff when I was younger. One of the side effects of living alone. No extra creepy ghosty movies. I'll take slashers over ghost any day!
