When Sam summons Ruby in NRFTW, there is no sign of the panic room in Bobby's basement. The boys are surprised when Bobby ushers them to the panic room to regroup in AYTG, and Bobby says he had a free weekend. Obviously, he built the panic room after he lost touch with Sam during that painful four-months of hiatus.

Also? Castiel was so awesome when he first showed up. Perplexed by Dean's lack of self-worth, wanting to help him, sympathetic, even, to his situation. Here's this human who has been put in his care. This human who is important to the cause--upon whom the cause hinges--but doesn't see himself as at all important, and even of minimal value. Castiel praises Dean on a job well done. Oh, yes, he reprimands Dean when Dean gets mouthy, but he doesn't lash out. He takes it like a parent takes a rebellious child until he sees he needs to put his foot down. And he is, as I said, sympathetic to Dean. He knows Dean doesn't want to hear what he (Castiel) has to tell him. Watching these two eps reminded me why I so loved Cas in early days. He was an awesome (in the actual sense of the word), mysterious messenger of the Lord, faithful to both his mission and his charge. I hope in S6 we see that he comes out of everything he went through--his crisis of faith--even stronger than before he first showed up.

Also, also? It occurred to me that the itinerate lifestyle that the Winchesters led is not the norm in the hunting community. Look at the other hunters we've met:
Bill Harvelle via Ellen and Jo: had a home.
Steve Wandell: had a home and appeared to make a decent living, good help send a child to college.
Rufus Turner: has a home.
Olivia Lowery: had a home.
Jed: had a home.
Bobby Singer: has a home and owns his own business.
The Campbells: had a home.

There are a few implied exceptions. Gordon Walker (who was a bit obsessed). Kubrick, who traveled in an RV rather than a car (and who could be a bit obsessed, but not as bad, I don't think, as Gordon). But they are not the norm (as we've been presented it).

So it would make perfect sense for Dean to settle in to a family of his own, to have a home base from which to work, and to which he's eager to return, once Sam comes back.

I'm still crying over Dean-Cas r-ship in S4. It was beautiful and why only did they ruin it in S5.... :(

And thanks for v-gift! It was a wonderful surprise.
