What Is and What Should Never Be
Jul. 7th, 2010 06:14 pmFor the past two days, I've been trying to figure out what I want to say about WIaWSNB.
And . . . I don't know what to say that hasn't already been said. The episode speaks for itself. It's in my top five eps of the series. It's strong on all fronts: writing (Raelle Tucker, you are missed, ma'am), acting (Jensen, have I said recently that you're awesome?), directing (Kripke, I have my doubts about your "genius," but I'll give you props on this one, especially since you were smart enough to listen to people when they told you to lighten up on the Dean as deadbeat loser angle). This is just an outstanding ep.
I will say that the first time I saw it, I freaked when they played the Joey Ramone version of "What a Wonderful World." "That's just wrong," I believe, were my words. I was so very used to the Louis Armstrong version (or Louis and Kermit the Frog, but that's another story). But I gotta admit, I liked the driving beat and guitar, and I put it on my "Dean's Tunes" mix; now it's one of my favorites, and I love to sing along to it.
Jensen. What can be said about Jensen in this ep? He's amazing? He's brilliant? He feels Dean's emotions so deeply that we cry with him and we want him to wake up but we wish he could stay? It's all been said before. We need new words or something.
Dean. Oh, Dean. So hopeful. So hurt. So self-sacrificing. Guh!
Sam. Oh, Sam. You who hates to see your brother in trouble, who wants him to pick you up first, and then goes looking for him to rescue him. And then to see him so broken, and offer him encouragement to go on.
And Jared. Such a different Sam from the one we see. Is this how the brothers really would have ended up? It hurts to think about.
And Jess! Gotta love Jess, even if she was just a wish.
I just . . . I'm not writing this coherently. There's so much about this ep I can't formulate the words for. Just go watch it. *shooing motions*

Date: 2010-07-08 12:13 am (UTC)What else I love- Well, I was actually more used to the Ramones sound than Louis Armstrong (nothing against Satchmo!) so Wonderful World didn't shock me- and it fits so well with the scene. Dean mowing the lawn and so HAPPY to mow the lawn. Waving to neighbors- Ahhh it IS a Wonderful World! (And notice- there are no blades on that mower!! Uh huh!!)
But alas, this World was not to be. And there's still a mystery to solve, people to save and a thing to hunt! So Dean leaves his dream world behind and saves the Day! YAY!!
