I made a prediction last year, and tonight, it came to pass. It makes me sad. Hold that thought.

First, the twig. Well, my meta from last week has now been refuted. Which doesn't surprise me at all, but I'll get into that later, maybe.

But this ep? 97% awesome!

Dean's X-Ray: Awesome!

Dean's amulet: Cool! In a contrived sort of way.

Return of Ellen, Jo, and Rufus: Awesome in ways I cannot voice.

Ellen's greeting to Dean is love.

Dean's bonding with the war vet: Very cool.

Sam's inner battle: Nothing new. I've discussed it before. He really needs to talk to Daniel Jackson about the absolute power thing. Fantastic to hear him recognizing it. Complete with Sammy!confession at the road-side picnic table. Yay Sammy!

The use of the prophecy in Revelation was very cool in this ep as well.

I predicted last season, after "Sex and Violence," that Sam and Dean would be splitting up and going their separate ways. It took longer than I anticipated, but sadly, it has come to pass. Dean even offered Sam the Impala. (Yes, Dean, rip my heart out, why don't you.) I just . . . it's very sad, and I want them to fix the situation post haste. (My personal guess is that it will take a trip to the future to show Dean what a bad idea letting Sam go was. But that's just a guess.) But we shall have to wait at least a week.

Hector is going to be in next week's ep!

Is it Thursday yet?

You're right about the x-ray being cool. I need an icon now!

Ellen! I knew I missed her, but didn't know I missed her *this* hard. She rocked!

It is hard to see the boys separate, but they need this time apart.

More thoughts on the separation . . .

Yeah, they definitely need time apart. Get their heads on straight separately so when they get back together (and they will get back together. You hear me, Kripke?) they can get the interpersonal act together.

But it just occurred to me to remember that every demon topside is now gunning for Dean. And he's been left unprotected. Bobby is out of commission indefinitely. Castiel is on a quest (though per next week's previews, he will be dropping in on Dean from time to time). Sam has gone and we don't know where.

Dean is unprotected, save for his tatt, his ribs, and the hex bag Sam gave him (which he hopefully has stashed somewhere). I suppose it's too much to hope for that he'll stick with Ellen and Jo for a while. (There would be uncomfortable questions.) Or Rufus (because that is an interpersonal disaster waiting to happen).

So, Sammy? Get your issues worked out soon, right?

Sam *knows* they're gunning for Dean. To me that shows how messed up and unsafe Sam thinks he is. I don't think he made the decision easily. Did he think Dean would talk him out of it? Perhaps, but I don't think it's gonna take them that long to determine they're better together than apart.

I think deep down I've wanted Dean on his own for awhile now. I want him to develop a sense of self that isn't tied to responsibility, you know. I want him to realize he can love and support his brother in a healthy, non codependent way. I also want Sam to stop passing the buck, and take responsibility for his actions.

Hopefully both those things can begin to happen in one or two eps. They don't have to be totally there, magically healed, just down the right path. I want them together!

Oh, I know Sam didn't make the decision lightly. And I'm thrilled that he's recognizing this about himself. Especially since I've been harping on it--or a variation of it--with him for ages. Stepping back from the hunt . . . I will be interesting to see what that means.

And I agree very much that Dean needs to regain and build on that confidence he gained in DaLDoM. (I guess forty years in Hell and the type of guilt he's shouldering will put a damper in your progress in that regard.) It might be difficult (impossible?) for him to separate his sense of self from his sense of responsibility. If he's not feeling responsible for Sam, he's going to feel responsible for the innocents around him. But I agree that that needs to not be the sole defining aspect of his personality.

It will be interesting--maybe even fun--to see them each on their own and on their own terms. But two, maybe three, eps of that will be quite enough, thanks.

Yeah, I think this was the first time I actually worked out the lore the way the show was using it before it was said. (Granted, having read Good Omens probably helped!) As soon as the guy said "shooting star", I yelled, "WORMWOOD!"

Other cool thing: not only did the other hunters show up, they all lived. Again. Finally.

Which is to say, I loved this episode too. :-)

I was in a room with 3 other non-Christian fans, so when they said 'water' and 'shooting star' I kind of started hyperventilating a bit, and they all looked at me like, "what?" and I squeed out the verse before Dean could get out the Bible. *g*

(I really liked how they portrayed War as influencing people; his description in Revelation is that he was "given power to take peace from the earth and to make men slay each other.")

ITA to the whole post but one thing bothers me.
My personal guess is that it will take a trip to the future to show Dean what a bad idea letting Sam go
Can i ask why? Do you implying that Dean never has to let Sam go? How about Dean's own life then? Is he destined to wipe Sam's ass for the whole life? Or that sam is so weak he can't go alone in this life without starting something terrible?

Of course that's not what I mean. Both of the boys need to get their heads on straight separately so that when they get back together, they can relate to each other as independent adults.

What I mean by it being a bad idea for Dean to let Sam go is that Bad Things happen when they split up: Meg, the djinn, Ruby. Sam and Dean are also an excellent example of the whole being greater than the sum of its parts. They work better together than separately. Naturally they each need their own space to sort things out. Dean needs to regain the confidence he started to develop in DaLDoM and build on that confidence. Sam needs to do some soul searching now that he's recognized his lust for power, for lack of a better way of putting it.

This is actually, I think, the first time the boys have mutually agreed to split up. Sam expected Dean to protest. I think he was a little hurt when Dean didn't try to stop him, but Dean recognized the need for space as much as Sam did.

Knowing nothing more than where they left it last night, what we're left with is Sam stepping back from the hunt. This means he won't be working jobs, which means what, exactly? He's going to get a regular day job? Live a normal life? Because the demons certainly know who he is, and he's got no one to watch his back.

Same with Dean. He's alone now, which implies that he's going to working jobs alone because he's got no one to watch his back. As much as they need to split up for a while (which I predicted they'd do last season), they need each other or one of them is going to get in to serious trouble, possibly killed. It's almost happened before, under better circumstances than we have now. (Of course that's not going to happen on the show; I'm just offering up the worst case scenario.)

So if things go as it feels like they're going to go, when the boys get back together, they're going to have to get to know each other all over again, to some extent, because they will each be independent personalities, returning to the partnership different than when they left.

In the meantime, oh, boys!

you're making me want to watch it again. Almost.

At what point in the storyline did you stop watching?

Did you know you live in the same city as Jensen and Jared? (Of course you did. ;-) )

Your icon reminds me of the Ah-Ha video "Take Me On." From a purely artistic POV, quite possibly the best video in the history of ever. At least in the top 5.

I stopped watching after the last season finale made me feel physically ill.

I know, they are filming right here! I hope I bump into Jensen (literally). I still think the boys are fab. Just didn't like how the last ep made me feel.

Totally 100% understand. Kripke is skating on thin ice with me, and I was . . . underwhelmed . . . to say the least, about certain aspects of the season finale. (Overall, it actually ranks as one of my least favorite eps.)

Last week's season opener was less than I expected, but yesterday's ep was pretty freakin' awesome.
