Oh, I know Sam didn't make the decision lightly. And I'm thrilled that he's recognizing this about himself. Especially since I've been harping on it--or a variation of it--with him for ages. Stepping back from the hunt . . . I will be interesting to see what that means.
And I agree very much that Dean needs to regain and build on that confidence he gained in DaLDoM. (I guess forty years in Hell and the type of guilt he's shouldering will put a damper in your progress in that regard.) It might be difficult (impossible?) for him to separate his sense of self from his sense of responsibility. If he's not feeling responsible for Sam, he's going to feel responsible for the innocents around him. But I agree that that needs to not be the sole defining aspect of his personality.
It will be interesting--maybe even fun--to see them each on their own and on their own terms. But two, maybe three, eps of that will be quite enough, thanks.
