I totally need an Ohio icon

As I'm surfing the 'Net this morning (reordering checks, actually), I came across a bit of information that I knew nothing about before.
Most sports fans will recognize Ohio as the home of the Ohio State Buckeyes. This is completely understandable. OSU is Big Ten.
I'm familiar also with the Bowling Green State University Falcons, because, dude. I'm an alumn. (Even if I never did make it to a single hockey game.)
Then there's the Wright State Raiders, the University of Dayton Flyers, and the Miami University RedHawks (formerly the Redskins, which is how I know them).
But I discovered today that Ohio is truly all-inclusive with it's mascots.
The University of Akron Zips . . . the mascot being a kangaroo. "Fear the Roo!" as the sports apparel says.
And the Youngstown State University? The Penguins.
I . . . had no idea.
*iz amused*

Date: 2009-09-05 01:54 am (UTC)I think Pomona's mascot is a tree. And UC Santa Cruz is the Banana Slug. TCU is the Horned Toads...

*googles TCU* *raises eyebrows* Hey. I know someone who's a freshman there this year. But horned toads in Texas makes a certain amount of sense, doesn't it?
But kangaroos. In Akron. There are no kangaroos in Akron. Not even in the zoo (according to the zoo's website). WT???
And the Fighting Penguins just . . . amuses me. Although . . .
