Nightshifter

This? Is a really great episode. There are some nice moments of humor, but overall, it hurts my heart a little.
Ronald cracks me up. I was very disappointed to see him offed. I was really hoping Sam and Dean could hook Ron up with Ash in the R&D side of hunting. Because while he isn't good at the field work, he can put a file together like nobody's business.
The motel room is soooo OTT. It's hilarious.
The jewelry clerk whom Dean questions (and obtains a phone number from) is named Frannie. Those of you who have heard me talk about my muse(s) by name will understand why this tickles me greatly. She doesn't have red hair, though.
I think this is the first time we hear Sam tell Dean to take the humanitarian duty in the hunt ("You take care of the guard") while Sam does the dangerous stuff ("I'm gonna go look for the 'shifter"). That's not how it pans out in the end, with Dean telling Sam to get Sherri out of there while Dean kills the 'shifter, but I think this is the first taste we get of this reversal, yes?
And the Feds show up. We meet Hendricksen for the first time. And we get a glimpse of how the outside, civilian world really sees Dean Winchester . . .
It makes my heart hurt. Sam and Dean just can't catch a break. This ep ends in what feels like a very noir sense of hopelessness to me. I just want to hug them and tell them everything will be okay.
Except I know what's coming in the next two years.
This ep also has what I consider the best in-show sound cue ever, specifically, "Renegade," by Styx.
