I have a perfectly logical explanation of why Castiel let Sam go.
Castiel knows that Sam has been all about finding Lilith. And Dean is all about keeping Sam out of trouble and saving Sam from himself, if possible. And we know that Castiel hasn't exactly been forthcoming as to how Dean is supposed to stop the Apocalypse. But we do figure that killing Lilith figures in somehow. And we know that it is possible to hide from angels (reference "Great Pumpkin"). So what I figure happened is that Cas's superiors told him to release Sam so that Sam could lead Dean to Lilith! Huzzah!
What? That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.
Also? I just now envisioned the end of the ep going something like this: Sam dispatches Lilith. Ground shakes, thunder rolls, the end is nigh-type stuff. Sam looks at Ruby in confusion. Ruby smirks her evil smirk and raises her evil brow and says, "Congratulations, Sam. You win."
Sam's brow wrinkles in that confused!Sam-like way, and he tilts his head in perplexity and says, "What?"
"You just broke the last seal."
At which point Dean skids onto the scene, the ground opens up and swallows him whole, Big Scary Thing rises and looms over Sam.
End credits.
. . .
Or not.
I'll just be packing for my vacation. Anyone wishing to join me riverside should bring big pretzels and beer. Or pie and refreshing Coke. Burgers will be provided, as will the cob salad.

Date: 2009-05-14 05:36 pm (UTC)In a way, I'm hoping for something that comes out of NOWHERE - like the semi hitting the Impala. Season 2's ender was like, "Oh, OK." Season 3 was viscerally disturbing but not a surprise. I'm kind of wanting a surprise.
And kittehs, of course.

I'm also not sure I could survive a SURPRISE. I'll just shut down and go catatonic.
Which isn't really a whole lot of fun. *smirk*

Well, that's what Sam would think, yes?
Four hours and twenty minutes.
