"When the Levee Breaks" theories

After a night of sleep, the shock seems to have worn off. I've downloaded the ep, but I'm still not planning on doing a magnum opus. I will, however, offer up some theories here, just in case they pan out next week. And a couple comments.
1. Castiel is going to give Dean the angelic equivalent of Sam's demon mojo.
2. Ruby's plan won't work. Even if she's telling the truth, which I don't believe she is--a lie of omission is still a lie--if Sam kills Dean, it goes against the prophecy of Dean having to be the one to stop the Apocalypse. Rather, it will only make matters worse, stepping Sam into Lilith's place (he was supposed to be the leader of YED's army, remember?), thereby either making Sam be the one to break the seal or giving Sam total demonic power, perhaps even turning him into a demon. In which case, Dean will have to kill him.
3. "If I do this, Sam won't have to?" Oh, Dean. That's been your approach to monster killing since we've known you. This is no different. *hugs Dean*
4. Sam's hallucinations are a very interesting statement on what he thinks of himself. He apparently already sees himself as a monster. He sees Dean as weak, or at least too weak to stop him. Or maybe that's the demon blood talking. *wants to hug Sam, but he's scary*
5. Now why would someone higher up tell Cas to let Sam out of the panic room? Is it to remove the one last obstacle preventing Dean from stopping the Apocalypse (said obstacle being to kill Sam)? Is it a test of his loyalty (something along the lines of Abraham and Isaac)? Or are we gonna go for the messianic storyline of Dean dying to redeem Sam and save the world? ('Cause we've kind of already done that, the Dean dies in Sam's place type of thing.)
6. I was delighted that Cas still feels he should at least acknowledge Dean's feelings by telling Dean he can't tell Dean whatever it was he was going to tell him last week.
7. Sam and Ruby are in bed, and they still have clothes on. In a Sera Gamble ep. Are we sure that's not the last seal?
8. I don't know how the writers are going to fix this. Right now, I don't see how they can fix it and stay true to the show. I hope they can, and I hope they do. I just . . .

Date: 2009-05-08 11:59 am (UTC)I think the boys are being played by both sides. I think Ruby was talking about herself - she's Lucifer's First, and Sam is the human she is now turning into a demon. Sam killing Lilith will complete his demonhood and break the seal and set Old Lucy free.
Why biggest question is what does heaven get out of letting Sam out? They either want this battle to be over and done with, or they still see Sam as a wild card in stopping the battle. If Dean fails, they still have Sam as backup, or vise versa.
I'm hoping Cas is gonna falter next week and help Dean at the last minute. He obviously knows the truth behind Heaven's plans.
Will Dean ever stop selling his soul for his brother. Oh, Dean.
I just hope the cliffie isn't with the boys still apart. I want them to figure "it" out, even if it's too late, and get stuck with fixing their mess next season, together.

Date: 2009-05-08 12:07 pm (UTC)Cas is totally gonna go rogue and side with Dean. That little look of woe last night? Heh.
The cliffie's totally gonna end with Sam on one side and Dean on the other. It's like last year, when Kripke said, "We've been talking all along about Dean going to Hell. We can't *not* do it." They've been talking all along about the brothers being divided. They can't *not* do it. They CAN'T. From a storytelling perspective, *not* doing it would be ridiculous. It's gonna end up with Dean and Cas against Sam and Ruby.
If I'm wrong, I'll buy you pie in DC.

Date: 2009-05-08 12:13 pm (UTC)Oh, I totally think it's gonna happen. But it can happen early enough in the ep that by the end the boys know they fucked up, each in their own way, and have a joint mission to fix their mess, whatever that mess may be. That's my hope, anyway. Oh, boys.
ETA: That would be a reeeallly long episode, wouldn't it. Damn! Let me eat pie!
