So, y'all want to come to work with me?
Mar. 13th, 2008 12:33 pmAnd no, I didn't just pick up "y'all" since I've moved south of the Mason-Dixon. It's been in my vocab for ages, and I don't put a twang in it. But I digress.
I'm looking for trivia questions for an event we're planning here at the STF. I'd prefer theater or TV questions (classic TV would be really good), or even literary questions, or sports, or history, or whatever. I've got movies covered (what with being married to a film archivist and all). These questions should be challenging, but not impossible to answer. Say . . . 1 in 250 people would be able to answer it. :-) I need both the question and the confirmed answer.
And since my f-list is so very small, if'n you could pimp this request around your own f-lists, 'twould be much appreciated. Just send 'em over to this entry with the question and answer.
Thank'ee kindly!

Creepies up my spine
Dec. 19th, 2007 01:51 pmSo. Over the past couple of days, I've had to open the theater and turn on the lights by myself. It's actually not that bad if I don't let my imagination wander. Turning *on* the lights is much better, though, than turning *off* the lights. I think it's because when I turn them on, I have light behind me, whereas when I turn them off before leaving the building, I have dark behind me.
I should probably explain that this is the theater that's scheduled for renovations next spring.
izhilzha has been in this theater. It's old and rundown and the ceiling is leaking and there's debris and dust and feathers all over. And it's dark (as theaters, by necessity, are). It's not too bad during a sunny day, as there are some windows in parts of the building, but on an overcast day . . . not so much.
It's funny, though, that even being as rundown as it is, the auditorium feels "comfortable." Almost like "home." There's a familiarity to it, and I can't wait until it is restored and functioning. Oddly enough, one of the things that helps as I walk through the gloom is to imagine a couple of my compatriots from the PAC working here. Not that that will happen, but I'd like for it to, ya know?
There are stories that the theater is haunted. (Any theater worth its salt--no pun intended, Izhi--has a ghost story or two attached to it.) But it's not like I think I'll ever see a ghost (I won't get into my own thoughts on the matter here). What freaks me out is the idea of seeing someone who shouldn't be there--who's real. Shadow or no, human figure or no, I don't care if you're corporeal or not. If you're not supposed to be here, YOU'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO BE HERE!
Digression: SPN totally needs to do a haunted theater ep.
I'm sure that as I get used to the building, and especially as renovations get underway and things become clean and new, I'll be fine. In the meantime . . .
Creepy crawlies up my spine when I have to turn out the lights.
