So, heading into springtime, I am a mix of things.

We're still waiting for an adoption placement. Our new caseworker (our previous worker resigned after she had her baby) sometimes tells us when our profile gets shown. I haven't decided how I feel about that. The only feedback we've gotten is that one birthmother liked us because we reminded her of her parents, but that she was looking for a younger couple. (I knew going into the process that our age would probably work against us. But maybe I didn't realize how much. It's just . . . really discouraging.) Other than that, it's been very quiet on that front.

We had to get a new boiler a couple months ago. The new one is more efficient and has so much copper tubing it looks like a fancy still.

We lost electricity the other day for most of the day. However, we were very blessed to get it back within the same day. Some people in the area will be without power until Sunday.

I'm directing the Good Friday play again this year. It's fairly simple to stage, but feels kind of cerebral in some of the dialogue, conveying the importance of what we're saying with mere words. It's a tenebrae service, which I found intriguing. (I call it the opposite of a candle light service. Instead of lighting candles, we extinguish them, for Good Friday.) Being Good Friday and the crucifixion, it focuses on Jesus' humanity, his human-ness, and I hope it speaks to the audience, or someone in the audience, because that's a very important aspect. It's a weighty thing to fathom.

Work is getting very busy. Our grand opening is May 4, with soft opening May 1, 2, and 3. I still haven't transitioned into my new position as house manager, though I've been assured that the position is mine. But we need to hire someone to take my current position before I can transition, and it's getting very frustrating that that's not a priority with the person who needs to do the hiring. My hours are starting to become more, which is good for the paycheck, but it also puts my schedule somewhat off-kilter, which is going to take me some getting used to until I can start rearranging my day in such a way that works.

I still miss Bunqui. This is the longest I've ever gone without having a kitty to keep me company.

Also my dad. And watching Nephew C grow.

So, exciting things are coming with the job, but I have that melancholy space, too.

*hugs* I miss you, we should talk (even though I am once again multiple eps behind on Show). Sadly, my phone has very limited reception at our temporary housing... but maybe we could work something out, if your work isn't keeping you too crazy busy?

Also: I didn't know they were offering you house manager! That's totally awesome! :)

I'd love to chat. It's just finding the time between wonky schedules and a 3 hour difference.

I've made several comments over the years that I wanted house manager when the position became available. And TPTB agree, so it's been something of an understanding for a long time. I just haven't been "officially" given the position, with a start date and all. I know what my salary will be, and I have an idea about days off and such, but the transition is, well, stalled.

But yes, I'm looking forward to getting into the position, while at the same time trying to figure out how it's going to affect other plans and things I've got going. (Life happens, you know.)

How long until you get to go home?

Yeah, that 3-hour difference is kind of a killer. :P

We think--based on the last news we've gotten from the restoration company--that we'll be able to go back the week after Easter or thereabouts. But that could change, so we're kind of just taking the moments as they come and hoping that estimate is correct.
