Dean breaks my heart.

Jensen has a beautiful smile, and Dean breaks my heart.

Also, I can totally understand the actress playing the teen having such a huge crush on Jensen (she's tweeted about working with him). Lucky, lucky girl.

And we get a tidbit of one of Dean's hunts while Sam was in school! \o/ Fic, please. (Also, I assume that this means that Dean has killed at least one, if not two, vetala.)

Geo noted with interest that the ep was directed by the director of Somewhere in Time. And Jaws 2. And a ton of TV dating back to the '70s.

I'm sure there will be more to write about when I come to terms/process the heartbreakage.

Because Dean breaks my heart.

Though next week's fedora might help.

Would I be wrong in guessing that Jensen had a TON of fun doing 7.12? :)

He was awesome in this episode. Overall, I think it would have been really *meh* if he hadn't brought all those layers to his scenes.

I looked up the critter after the ep, and I kinda wish they'd gone a little bit more into the lore. Not an earth-shattering ep, but is was so dang nice to have the guys (especially Jensen) back on my screen that I'm happy.

And yes. Next week looks fairly awesome!

I thought Jensen and young Madison were a great duo. It was nice seeing her tweets of the experience. How cool was it that they got her a cake for her birthday!

Did Bobby drink Dean's beer? I'm really not into ghost!Bobby, but my feelings wouldn't be hurt having a glimpse of Bobby again.

That last scene of Dean trying to fake smile made me all brokey inside. Oh, Dean.

Oh, no. I don't think it was Bobby. That thought didn't even really cross my mind (though I suppose they could go there.) I think it's some wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey stuff. Disappearing beer, four weeks vs. four days, and a thirty-six hour nap that might or might not be an accurate count.

And a trip back to the '40s next week.

The thought crossed my mind that it's actually Cas trying to make contact, since angels are the only entity we currently know of who can manipulate time travel.

Cake from castmates on your b-day is FTW. Cake from Jensen on your b-day is even better! \o/

Yeah. There were a lot of weird time jumpy things all episode. Suppose we'll find out next week.

We got cowboy hate!Dean. Now we get guns blazing, fedora!Dean. I love Chicago!

Oh yes, that last scene broke my heart!

Oh, that last scene.

At first I was like, aw, Jensen, you have such a lovely smile. It's nice to see it. Aw, Dean is happy he was able to talk a family out of the life and give the girl a chance at a real life.

Then he started with the experimental smiles, trying on different kinds, and I was like oh, oh Dean, trying Frank's advice to do the job "with a smile." He breaks my heart.

That was my thought process exactly! Man, I am always so amazed at Jensen's acting.

Might I also mention that I think the time-jumpy stuff (wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey stuff, if you're a Dr. Who viewer) is quite possibly Cas trying to make contact? Deans disappearing beer, and the 4 weeks vs. 4 days . . . and next week's ep.

As far as we know, angels are the only creatures who can manipulate time, right?

It's just a theory, and I could be totally barking up the wrong tree, but right now, that seems an intriguing possibility.

Of course this well totally mess with Dean's brain, and not really in a good way.

Hmm... I hadn't considered Cas. But it could be... I really hope they plan to go somewhere with all that weird foreshadowing crap!

I've heard some people speculate that it could be Kronos (Chronos? Father Time, in English) from the next episode.

I've heard people suggest Bobby but that doesn't make much sense... now if the beer bottle had been knocked off the table or something that theory would be better.

Ah, I didn't know anything about Chronos showing up in the next ep (spoiler-allergic am I). Now that you mention it, I vaguely remember glimpsing something about him showing up sometime this season, but that pretty much nixes my Cas theory of time travel.

I hope it's not Bobby, though. Besides that, Bobby finished his unfinished business, and no doubt the boys cremated him within those first couple of weeks.

But you know what else feeds into the wibbly-wobbly time? Dean saying that Sam was at Stanford a couple years ago. Now, I thought it was just a figure of speech. And Dean's personal/mental timeline is forty years longer than his physical timeline. But there's something going on, methinks.

I'm well known for being COMPLETELY wrong in my guesses about things - but I'm thinking we'll see Misha come back as Completely!Crazy!BigBossLeviathan, wearing Jimmy's meatsuit - and all of his clothing except the coat. It popped into my head this morning that he could have faked his "death" in the reservoir, and floated the coat back to shore to throw the boys off the track.

Also could be, we'll see the final wisps of Cas some back somewhere around the season finale to battle the Levis. I'm thinking ghost!Bobby could show up then, too. At least, that's what I'm hoping. In spite of all the shrieking and chest-beating around the fandom, if Show restored Castiel (in ANY way other than sending him off to Heaven, never to be seen again), I'd start throwing things at the TV. The show's about SAM AND DEAN. If John doesn't get to come back (although I know that's largely due to personal/political issues), then Castiel doesn't either, unless it's a small bit to accomplish something specific (a la AHBL II).

I am very much in agreement that Misha will probably return as the Big Bad, and that Dick Roman is a lieutenant. I think the weird time-y stuff could be Cas trying to make contact, but I'm not sure I expect him to actually show up in person.

I'd like to see Bobby return not as a ghost per se, but in Dean's dreams. Messages through dreams and psychics is what I'm thinking.

I'm not particularly gung-ho on Cas returning; I would like him to get back to Heaven, or as you say to accomplish something specific.

Right now, I'm just kind of holding on for the ride, with no uber-strong opinions about much of anything except to follow the boys' story. You know?

Bobby and Ellen could team up to help the boys from The Other Side of the Veil! We already know she's still hanging around...

I watched "Back to the Future II" yesterday, and it struck me how Dean basically dumped Cas in the motel room for 5 days (even though he was trashed and bleeding), then set off with Sam without a second thought. For Dean, it was all about saving his parents. Where's the fabled Profound Bond with Cas at that point? I imagine if I looked, I could find any number of other examples. Now, I know people latch onto what works for them, but to me, for Dean it's always been about family. Cas was a buddy who worked alongside him, a kind of Sam-substitute when he needed one, and yes, I know the word "family" has been bandied about, but if you lined up Sam and Cas and told Dean to choose, there wouldn't even be a contest.

I just watched 7.11 again, and what struck me was the odd shift in tone with the cherrypicker scene. In the rest of the episode, Dean is very capable and determined. But in that one scene, we revert to "Yellow Fever" Dean, who's all stupid and panicked for no good reason. We've seen him drive a cement truck. He's worn "costumes" any number of times. If I've got one gripe about this episode, it's the jamming-in of Dumb Dean because "OMG, funny Dean is funny!"

Really, it would have been funnier (more in-character funny) if Frank was running the controls and flinging Dean all over the place, with Dean being aware of the dangers of being around high voltage power lines.

I enjoyed the episode and thought Jensen, as usual, was phenomenal. That end scene was just heartbreaking. **sniff**

I don't know what to make of the beer and time issues. It could be Cas, a time ripple, Bobby....are there other ways to get back in time? I have no idea where they're going, but I'm definitely intrigued and enjoying the ride. :)

That last scene was incredible. An amazing cap to the entire episode. I know that not a lot of people were happy per se about the entire ep but I liked it because there seemed to have been some call backs to previous eps. Plus boys were back on my screen. :-)

Jensen is phenomenal. I can't say enough good things about him.

Geo and I re-watched the ep last night, and he commented on how disturbing it was to watch Dean trying on his different smiles.

It was especially so with the lighting the way it was, making his eyes glow in the dark, and just flashes of the smile between patches of darkness.

Oh, Jensen. You are awesome.

I think the ep served its purpose for what it was, and the title had a dual meaning. "Babysitting" Chrissie, and also "babysitting" (surveiling) the leviathans.

I would have liked for them to delve a bit into the MotW and make it more a part of the overall story, rather than just a generic vampire substitute.

But we got some interesting wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey mystery stuff.

And boys back on my screen. :-)
