Okay, I was not expecting *that*

So. This past week, E! On-line has been running one of their popularity polls. Jensen made it into the final round of the "Alpha Male Madness" competition, running opposite Darren Criss of Glee (whom I'd never heard of. I don't watch Glee). It was a very heated competition, and both sides had elements that got nasty. I might write more about my observations later, but for now, this is what surprised me:
First, go take a look at the winner announcement and the posted comments they selected.
You back? Okay. That first one, the one titled "Family don't end with blood"?
That comment entry?
I wrote that.
They chose one of my entries as an example of why Jensen is awesome.
I know it's just a silly internet poll, but . . . I can't help but be all flabbergasted and stuff.
I . . . it's just a weird feeling to see something I wrote representing why Jensen is awesome. O.o How did that happen?
It's kind of exciting. :-)
You know, in a really silly, fannish, there-are-so-many-other-more-important-things-in-life way.
(And those of you who know about our looking into adoption can imagine how the whole adoptive/surrogate family storyline has added yet another layer to the show for me, yeah? But that's another entry for another time.)

@1614 Naomi...You just described Jensen Ackles. He's amazingly talented and VERY humble and down-to-earth and gracious. His portrayal of Dean Winchester speaks to me in ways I can't really explain...He's the eldest sibling who feels he falls short, devoted family man, and if you want to get into a "cause," SPN is very much based on the fact that "family don't end with blood." Adoption/surrogate family is just as much family as blood family. For Dean, family comes first, even if it's not his own family. Jensen himself has been an inspiration to me in my acting. He can give even the most ridiculous or mundane dialog and scene meaning, and that's something I learn from to improve my own acting. His work ethic is incredible, and I admire the man as much as I've admired any actor. And yes, watching DVDs of his shows, or convention videos of his singing and Q/As makes me smile.
As presented in the announcement (for my own records, in case the link dies):

Date: 2011-04-13 02:54 am (UTC)That is such a great comment, I'm glad they picked it!
Even though it's just an internet poll, I think it speaks volumes of Jensen's talent and the amazing character he has created, especially taking into account the "experimental" nature of this season and Dean's storyline, or lack thereof, depending on one's point of view.

Date: 2011-04-15 02:13 pm (UTC)Even though this was an "experimental" season, I think Jensen has rocked it from beginning to end. He might not have been comfortable with what he was given to work with, but he totally made it work, and I enjoyed watching it. I wish there were a way to tell that to him to his face.
I think Dean definitely has a storyline this season; I just hope they don't drop it. Ya know?

Date: 2011-04-15 02:14 pm (UTC)He might never know who I am ("probably" being more likely), but I hope I can somehow, in the great cosmic scheme of things, be a blessing for him.

Date: 2011-04-13 05:47 am (UTC)I know Darren Criss from his Harry Friggin' Potter days, which is definitely worth a look see if you love hokey fan-produced college musicals.

Date: 2011-04-15 02:20 pm (UTC)Yes, a lot of the Darren Criss fans were referring to him as Harry Potter, which, I kept thinking, "No, Daniel Radcliff is Harry Potter." And even he's not the Harry Potter in my head when I read the book (though he's kind of close). Anyway . . .
Will have to check it out.

Date: 2011-04-13 11:54 am (UTC)I'm so glad Jensen won the TVG fan fav award and this silly E!Online Alpha Male thing right on the heels of that. Even though it's not the same as the TVG thing, it did receive a lot of attention on twitter, and twitter gets a lot of attention in and of itself. And, IMO, Jensen deserved this kind of attention after this "experimental" season and his frustrations with it.

Date: 2011-04-15 02:41 pm (UTC)I'm thrilled they did so well in the TVG polls/awards. To me, those are more important that the E!Online popularity polls because with TVG, there's actually press coverage in a nationally distributed magazine, and it's something the PR department can work with.
I just wish there were a way to tell Jensen to his face that even though he might have been frustrated with what he was given this season, I for one loved watching him play it. He hit that balance just right, and I was delighted to see the "softer side of Dean," which I've always suspected existed. He rose to the occasion, and it played beautifully.
