Or rather, Happy Winter Solstice Plus Bonus Full Lunar Eclipse.

Did anyone else get up to see the eclipse last night? Lunar eclipse on the Solstice hasn't happened since 1683.

It was pretty amazing. The full moon was so bright when we went to bed, then when we got up around 3:00am, things were so dark. We had a little bit of cloud cover, but we did get to see the full eclipse. The moon turns red (Geo calls it blood red), and it's pretty wild to see. Very cool. He got a couple good pics with his new camera, but my little camera couldn't pick it up. (I really do need to print out and read the user's manual.)

Geo commented that it's no wonder people used to freak out over something like this. The night gets dark, and the moon gets blotted out and turns (blood) red. Yikes!

Once in a lifetime thing, the timing of this eclipse. Glad we got to see it.

No eclipse for us due to a week's worth of continuous rain (and cloud coverage).

Yes, it seems you all have been getting quite a bit of rain recently. That's not normal, is it?

We had some think cloud coverage, but mostly we were able to see the eclipse. Geo got some pretty good pictures.

I didn't see the eclipse except on CNN and various websites - but the idea of a full eclipse on the winter solistice started ideas in my head Bobby and Rufus Turner might have to do something about. . .
