Lost Boys post-viewing

Man, sometimes I forget how much I like this movie. It's so . . . good. Not particularly deep or insightful, but it's so freakin' much fun.
I couldn't help but notice as I was watching how consciously comfortable I was with Michael calling Sam "Sammy" on a regular basis. Not that it was unusual, of course. It just sounded . . . familiar. Heh.
Also? Scary vampires. Ugly, scary vampires. Like vampires are supposed to be. None of the tortured, tormented, pasty, sparkly garbage. Just outright, tempting, evil vampires, and a genuine struggle to get out from under their influence without, you know, getting killed in the process. (I am totally with Jensen when he says he wants to kill some vampires properly this season. Yes!)
Also also? Every time David (Keiffer Sutherland) did something bad-A or evil, my first thought was "the future Jack Bauer." I'm not a Keiffer Sutherland fan per se, but what I've seen of his stuff (this, Dark City, the first season of 24), I like.
THE FASHION! Oh. My. Word. At one point, I asked Geo, "What is he wearing?" in response to one of Corey Haim's (Sam) costume pieces.
The movie is so deliciously 80s. (It was released the year I graduated high school.)
Geo made an interesting comment that this movie changed the look and face of horror movies. I can't really explain in further detail right now, but he has a point.

Date: 2010-08-18 05:38 pm (UTC)I loved this movie and still do, but look at it differently now. The Vamps seemed like the COOLEST guys around when I was a teen. Now with older eyes I see that much of their "coolness" is just hair-flipping. And what hair! Oh 80's you were such a strange "totally tubular" decade!
Also, as I've gotten older, Grandpa and his WorldView becomes all the more endearing. Sam whining about no TV and no MTV... Ahh, just wait Young Sam, just wait and see what MTV becomes *shudder* But you have TV Guide-? No need to watch TV! Amen Grandpa!
And then there's the lovely (half!)vampire vixen, Starr and her seductive... SHOULDER PADS!! Why Starr! Why! Oh 80's I love you even as you hurt my EYES!
Still young Jason Patric floating up to the ceiling in his sleep has to be one of the most beautific shots in Cinematic history (80's Hair and all)
And Billy Wirth- who if you notice NEVER gets a name in the movie- but I think he's billed as "DRACO" if memory serves is SOOOO Gorgeous- and yet barely says a word. He was hired for bod and his hair flipping abilities no doubt!
And Lil Corey Haim singing in the bathtub *sniff* Another R.I.P.? Good googly!

Date: 2010-08-18 06:06 pm (UTC)I do so love this movie as something of a time capsule of the 80s. Not so much in an "accurate" historic sense, but in the "this is what was really cool" sense.
It's so 80s, and yet, the story isn't really dated at all.
TV Guide . . . back when it was actually worth the price.
Such a fun, fun movie.

Date: 2010-08-19 12:35 pm (UTC)Poor guy, probably highlighting the script and making notes "Hair flip, hair flip, cool laugh, scowl... ooh 'Goin' for a ride, man!'... scowl, scowl... hair flip..."
Such a hottie, though. Even mostly silent. :-)

Date: 2010-08-19 11:13 am (UTC)David gets most of the attention, after Michael and Sam, Star and Laddie (The return of Eddie Munster! Aghhh!), the Frog brothers and the adults. But Marko's devotion caught my attention, and it was fun to posit motivation for him, and then for Dwayne and Paul as well.

There's so many possibilities. Such a great film that you really can watch over and over again- big hair, shoulder pads and all!
