If there's such a thing as a "perfect" SPN episode, Asylum goes on the list.

It is so, so, very creepy. Seriously. The way it's lit, and the subtlety of the scares--shadows appearing in the background. Figures moving unexpectedly across the screen. Things touching you when there isn't anything there. I love that kind of creepy.

This is SPN at its finest.

You're making me want to do a rewatch, too! I haven't seen Asylum in a while, but yeah--so very creepy, and a great brother storyline to go with it, and cool guest characters.

The only problem I have with it now is that during the scene where Sam is whammied I now have the "Real Ghostbusters" reading of that scene running in tandem with the real thing. Which, you know, is kinda distracting and takes away from the gravity of the scene. In that regard, I rather wish they hadn't done that. Because now, instead of delving into the scene, my primary thought is, "Chuck's writing about this." So, meh.

But it's still a fantastic, creepy ep!

Assylum and Nightshifter are two of my favorite eps for introducing people to the show. Add something extra funny like Hell House or Bad Day at Black Rock and you've got a pretty good sampling of what makes the show awesome, I think.

Yes, I did see that. And though I think it's nice of CW to make the effort, I think they've missed the boat when it comes to what they should be promoting for an Emmy. But if Jensen (or SPN) gets nommed for anything, I'll be watching the Emmys for the first time in I don't know how many years.
