Can someone shed some light, please?
Feb. 18th, 2010 07:55 amSo. SPN is renewed for a sixth season. And Kripke is stepping down as show runner, while Sera takes his place.
But where the heck are people coming up with Bob Singer stepping down as well? I can't find anything that says that. What I'm reading is that Kripke and Kripke's co-show runner, Bob Singer, will continue to work with Sera.
But nowhere can I find that Bob is stepping down as well. Of course he'd be working closely with Sera if he continues on in his role. Duh. He's the co-show runner now, and just because Kripke is leaving does not mean that Bob is leaving, too.
Is this another case of fans "reading between the lines," or is there actually confirmation somewhere that Singer is leaving?
The thought of Bob leaving actually freaks me out a little more than the thought of Kripke leaving. Because Singer has been the balancing influence to Kripke, and I think Sera probably needs the same sort of balance.
Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi. I'm so confused.

"But, and this is a big but, Kripke will remain actively involved in the show — and not just in name only. Although CW and Warner Bros. reps declined to comment, a Supernatural insider assures me that Kripke and his current co-showrunner, Robert Singer, will continue to function as hands-on executive producers.
“Eric and Bob will be working very closely with Sera,” says the source. “They are not abandoning the show.”"

Date: 2010-02-19 01:43 am (UTC)To me, that quote does not say that Bob is stepping down. It says that even though Kripke is stepping down, he and his current co-showrunner will continue to work with Sera. It doesn't say anything about the co-showrunner stepping down, too.
I don't know. It just seems like people are reading something into the statement that isn't there.
He's also one of their regular directors. I could very well be totally wrong, and maybe he is stepping down as co-showrunner, but I guess I don't automatically read this as one of their executive producers and directors stepping down from his showrunning position just because Kripke is.
Does that make sense?
Not that it really matters if he's still working closely with Sera, I guess. It just . . . fandom jumps to conclusions so quickly, and no one has been able to give me a definitive answer. :-)
I suppose "They are not abandoning the show" could imply that Bob is stepping down, too, but it seems kind of vague.

Date: 2010-02-19 02:52 am (UTC)I don't know, I'm not exactly thrilled with Sera being named the showrunner. Like you said, I think Sera needs some balance, so I think there should be co-showrunners and I think it should be Sera and Ben Edlund.
It's times like this that I really miss Kim Manners. :-(

Date: 2010-02-19 07:01 pm (UTC)"Micheel Ausiello reports that both Eric Kripke and Bob Singer will step aside
as show runners to devote more time to new projects with the WB. Sera Gamble is
promoted to showrunner. Ausiello reports a source saying: "Eric and Bob will be
working very closely with Sera. They are not abandoning the show."

Date: 2010-02-19 10:39 pm (UTC)I've read the actual Ausiello report (http://ausiellofiles.ew.com/2010/02/16/supernatural-eric-kripke-steps-down-showrunner/), and I can't find in the actual report where it actually says that Bob is stepping down, or that he's working on developing new projects. Ausiello says a lot about Kripke stepping down, and that Kripke and Bob will continue to work with Sera. But he doesn't actually say that Bob is stepping down.
Now, if part of Kripke's development deal is that he continues to partner with Bob, then I can totally see that. I just get a little confused when everyone in the fandom is saying one thing, and I'm looking at the same information and going, "Wait. Where does it say that? Where are you getting that from?"
"They are not abandoning the show" is the only part of the report that I can see as implying that Bob is stepping down, too.
It's neither here nor there, really. We'll have to wait and see how next season turns out. And if the Guys' contracts are up next year, I'd be kind of surprised if they continued past their current contracts unless next season is positively phenomenal.

My thoughts exactly.
