Well, I think most of the points that people want to comment on have been commented on, but this has become a habit with me, so here's one more week of the long and the rambly.

Well . . . there actually isn't a whole lot of thinky for the case in this one. Intro scene with guys ogling a Porsche . . . I have had it confirmed that one of the guys (the one who survives) played Carson Becket in SGA. I'm not an SGA fan, so I wasn't sure, but there ya go.

But ick on the windshield through the skull. Though the drippy over the hood was classic horror title graphic-y cool.

Establshing shot . . . we've seen that one before, yeah?

"This is what we're doing. End of discussion." Um, okay. But Dean's explanation makes sense. Ease back into it. Get a feel for working together again. Take a straightforward case. And Sam? Dean said "we." "I really want this to be a fresh start. For the both of us." *hugs Dean* I'm very proud of you. Forgive and move on. Yay.

Canton, Ohio! And for the record, Geo got a kick out of the Canton Wax Museum. Because that's just silly.

Just for the record, Jensen and Jared looked really good in this ep. Especially the FBI questioning/debriefing scenes. *nods*

I love Dean's enthusiasm about the car. The way his face lights up, and he just can't wait to check it out. And the gusto with which he gives Sam the background (yay for the writer remembering that Dean is a pop cult and urban legend fiend).

I also love the trepidation with which the boys eye the car before Dean agrees to be the one to crawl under and get the number. They amuse me so, and they play off each other so very well.

Continuing the FYI, Jared looks really good in the t-shirt.

I am highly amused that the professor's housekeeper is named Consuela. This is because there's a passingly similar character in a N3 fic I'm rather fond of. Though this Consuela is a bit more proficient in her duties than the Eppes's housekeeper.

Abraham Lincoln as bloodthirsty ghost: I'm . . . not sure what to make of that. I am disturbed. And possibly offended. But I'm not sure. Geo also found it very disconcerting. Heh.

I like the sheriff looking for logical answers to these crimes. He's so earnest about it. It makes me want to see Gil Grissom work with the Winchesters on a case.

I love that Sam speaks Spanish, and that he remembers that much from his freshman Spanish class. 'Cause I certainly don't remember that much. Hee!

Two laptops! Black and white. I am . . . strangely pleased to see that they each have their own laptop now.

As I mentioned earlier, Geo got a kick out of the Canton Wax Museum. Ha! Also of note, Geo pointed out that the "Hall of Presidents" display included a figure of President William McKinley. This is entirely appropriate, as Pres. McKinley was, indeed, from Canton, Ohio. Geo was very impressed with that attention to detail. I, otoh, would not readily recognize Pres. McKinley from a brief scan-by of wax figures.

Sam's response to Fonzie's jacket . . . "That's really cool . . . ish." Heh!

Okay, Dean? Honey? Sweetie? Dude? I've talked for the past two weeks about how important it is that you forgive Sam. That comment to Bobby? Not forgiving. The continuing attitude, and "this is as fresh as it gets"? Not forgiving. And I was so proud of you, too. Please don't make me slap you.

Geo, otoh, commented, "Yeah, Sam. It's gonna be hard to live down starting the Apocalypse."

Sam staring at the Abe figure is rather unnerving.

Watching Dean torch historically significant artifacts is also a little unnerving. But then, they can't be too historically significant if they're sitting out in plain sight in a wax museum in Canton, Ohio.

Here we are at one of the significant exchanges of the ep. And . . . Sam makes a lot of good points. Dean kind of is being a jerk in this ep, giving Sam the grunt work, and being rather condescending in his attitude. And Dean? That's not forgiving. I agree with Dean that they've got trust-building to do, but Sam has some very valid points, too. The partnership does have to be a two-way street. But. It hurts every time I hear Sam say that he went off with Ruby to get away from Dean. I understand his motivation, but that's got to hurt. Because here Dean was in Hell for what seemed to him to be 40 years, and when he gets back, his brother wants to get away from him. Not all the time, obviously, because Sam was also protective of Dean last season. But there are a lot of adjustment issues for both of them that I would love to see addressed. I'd love to see the boys relating to each other as equal partners, but also see Dean making a conscious effort to let Sam grow up, and perhaps more especially (being the Dean!girl that I am) seeing Sam acknowledge in some way that Dean is doing this, and that Dean isn't losing his brother but gaining an equal. And that in spite of being equals, Sam still needs his brother.

But Sam makes valid points. He acknowledges that it's his fault, but the point is, they can't go back to there old patterns. Dean has to let Sam grow up.

Saved by the bell, Dean.

When the girls tell Sam and Dean about Paris Hilton? I love Dean's bzuh faces. He's so cute when he's perplexed.

Sam doing an autopsy . . . okay, I've said it before, I'll mention it again. Sam? You would do well to wear one of those face shield thingies. That way if the blood gets squirty (you remember the ghost virus, yeah?) it won't get in your eyes or nose or mouth or on your skin. Lucky for you, this body wasn't squirty.

Sam says, "Yahtzee!" Yes, Dean has rubbed off on him. (This makes me wonder if we're going to start getting a bit of personality role reversal, with Dean being the more cautious one and Sam ready to jump in and take the risks. More on that later.)

Pagan god is reminding me of the Christmas episode.

Paris did an okay job, I thought. Not brilliant, but I think I've seen worse. And it was amusingly ironic, in a clunky sort of way (either the writing or delivery or a combination of both), that she was the one giving the commentary on modern-day idolatry. Not as effective as the commentary on modern technology actually doing more to isolate us than bring us together in "Long Distance Call."

House of Wax shout-out. I think Geo would have been disappointed if they hadn't made it. Ha!

How cruel of Show to taunt us with the potential for the appearance of JDM and not deliver! My thoughts went something along the lines of, "Oh, they didn't. Did they? Would they? Could they? Does he have the time? Naw. Maybe? Hopefully? Yes? No. Bummer. That would have been cool."

Sam mocking Dean about being wailed on by Paris Hilton. Did that feel at all . . . Dean-like?

The final conversation by the trunk. I love that Dean was able to take Sam's earlier criticism and process it without getting angry or defensive. I also appreciate knowing that Dean has told Sam about the 1st seal thing. I also wonder if Sam had killed Lilith sooner--thus making her death NOT be the 66th seal--if that would have accomplished the intended goal (i.e., to kill Lilith and stop the Apocalypse). But that conversation, that is a genuine apology and real forgiveness from Dean, and real acceptance from Sam.

And again, Sam is exhibiting Dean-like tendencies. Deal with what's in front of us and go down fighting. That's Dean's attitude and always has been. And they're going to do it as equals.

Now they just need to get back to being family.

Love the choice of music. Part of me wishes they'd found a better place to use it rather than over the "Soon."

And speaking of the "Soon," I strongly suspect that Kripke & Co. have watched Channel Hopping:

One of my very favorite fan vids.

Also? Aged!Dean concerns me. I am concerned.

Also also? Though I don't watch CSI: Miami, Boys in sunglasses is a good thing. [livejournal.com profile] izhilzha will tell you I have a thing for Jensen in shades. She's not entirely wrong.

That as indeed "our"Carson Beckett ala SGA! Only without the Scottish accent. Nice to see. And considering the lady last week who slapped Dean b/c she thought they connected (what was her name? Jena/Renna) was also in SG1 and is married to "Dr. Jackson" (Michael Shanks) from SG1! So it's fun to see characters from other shows that I watched and drooled and read fics!

Oh, that's right. Lexa (aka Mrs. Michael Shanks) was on SG-1 for a brief time. I remember her as Rommie on Andromeda for the brief half-season that I watched it.

I'd really like to see Risa (Reesa?) show up in the current timeline.

I really cannot get over how awesome it is to have the boys mending fences and building trust in such a grown-up way. As you say, not angry and not defensive--just listening to each other and actually trying to move forward. \o/

For some reason, Paris's performance really amused me. I was all dismayed when I found out she would be guest-starring because I didn't see why Show should indulge her in the delusion that she can act, but then when it turned out she was playing herself played by a pagan god, I was very tickled with the whole thing.

but then when it turned out she was playing herself played by a pagan god,

Because that right there is some sort of social commentary.

Also, I might be e-mailing you a slightly angsty and completely pointless post-5.5 conversation. Just to get Musey to shut up about it. We shall see.
