Canton! The weird stuff always happens in Ohio, doesn't it.

This was a fun ep. Not fun like Monster Movie, but it had some very humorous moments.

Dean fan!boying James Dean's car.

Sam fan!boying Ghandi.

The House of Wax reference.

Oh! And each of them now has a laptop.

But the serious stuff was very good and very needed, too:
1. I'm sure the Sam!girls loved this episode. If I hear any complaining, I'll be very surprised. And really confused.
2. And that answers the question about whether or not Dean has told Sam about the 1st seal. Obviously, he has.
3. Sam said some things that had to hurt, and Dean accepted them. Dean admitted his part in the matter and his shortcomings and apologized for them. Both guys being honest. Both admitting their part in the matter. Have we ever seen such open honesty between them? When they're both conscious, I mean?

I'm glad they didn't gloss over everything like it didn't happen and that they're starting to adjust to one another on equal terms. And now that they're working toward being equal partners, I hope they can get back to being brothers, too.

Dean really has rubbed off on Sam, hasn't he? "Yahtzee." His go down swinging attitude.

Now, about this "Soon" business. I am . . . apprehensive. About the TV show stuff (the tricksters doing, perhaps?). Looks like an Edlund episode to me. And about this Damien child.

But I am thrilled to see the boys in shades. (Shut up, Izhi.)

More when I do my long rambly.

Sorry but for me it was the biggest glossing over their issues i ever seen. So apparently it's all Dean's fault that Sam chose Ruby over him. Because he didn't let poor little Sammy to grow. From the grave. When he was in hell. Yeah, i can see it *rolls eyes*
Very disappointed by this ep.
And apparently it's all ok now between them. No addressing Sam's behaviour, no addressing chocking, no addressing killing innocent people. Because it's Sam and he can do whatever he wants. Got it. Not interested.

I think the biggest glossing over would have been if they'd never mentioned any of it ever again. I'm glad they took one more ep to show that it wasn't just a matter of becoming the dynamic duo again.

I'm . . . not really pleased with where they left things with Dean in this whole thing. Part of me suspects that we haven't heard the last of all of this.

And, yes, when I think about how things transpired last season, with Dean returning from 40 years in Hell to be made to feel like Sam didn't need him anymore . . .

The conversation did seem kind of one-sided and imbalanced.

The brothers still feel estranged to me. They're working together again, working toward being equals, but it . . . feels awkward. They don't feel like family to me.

I'm not sure that it's "all okay now." We'll just have to wait and see how this plays out.

I'm not even sure if i want to wait and see anymore :(
They whitewashed sam again and it looks like they'll never stop doing it then what's the point in watching? I can tell you it'll be smart Sam who'll come up with idea of how they'll kill Luci and it'll be Sam who actually kill him. I still don't know why is Dean there?
They still don't let sam to grow. Did you hear him? It's all Dean's fault, Ruby's fault whatever's fault but not Sam's. And when he fo8nd the time to suddenly see things so clearly when he didn't even acknowledge his own problems with pride and arrogance till War told him in 502. The whole smartsam thing feels far-fetched.
But i don't care about Sam. I don't care if they ruin him. I watch because of Dean and they ruin Dean. Why was it needed to show all his growth the last season and in the beginning of this season when it's apparently means nothing and their r-ship is one-sided again and that's how it supposed to be?

The brothers still feel estranged to me. They're working together again, working toward being equals, but it . . . feels awkward. They don't feel like family to me.
Exactly! But it looks like for the writers it's all old and uninteresting and they think it's all ok and they can move on. It's really disappointing.

It's all Dean's fault, Ruby's fault whatever's fault but not Sam's.

I'll have to watch it again (still waiting for iTunes), but Sam did say that it was his fault that he spent all his time with Ruby.

It's funny (in an ironic kind of way) to hear you talk about how Sam is whitewashed and Dean is misused, and then to go to a Sam!girl list and read the exact opposite--how Dean can do no wrong and the writers make everything out to be Sam's fault. When actually they've both made mistakes, and they're both just now 'fessing up to them.

I might have more to say later.

Yes, Sam said that but did you remember how he said that? It was totally - yes, it's my fault but i did it because you were... so it was blame shifting again.
And i didn't check smagurls places but as friends told me they all happy about the ep.

So apparently it's all Dean's fault that Sam chose Ruby over him.

No, they covered this. It wasn't that it was Dean's fault; it's that Sam used that as his excuse. I do think Sam's right about part of this, though; Dean has always treated him like the baby brother, and if this partnership is going to work that's going to have to change a bit.

I was ridiculously proud of Dean, for being able to see what bit of that was true and accept it, without getting furious or giving up or blaming himself more than was necessary.

Both of them are growing up, in some painful ways.

(Clearly, you are not watching the same show I am. What hurt Dean most was Sam betraying him; what Sam keeping being most haunted by are the innocents that have and will be hurt because of the horrible decisions he made last season.)

Actually i think we watch the same show.

I agree with that but Sam was actually saying there that he's ok with someonw controlling him if it made in pleasant (for him) way. because Ruby controlled him much more than Dean was supposed to (though i rarely saw that in the show) and Sam was totally ok with it. Sam addressed some of Dean's problems but was blind about his own.

What hurt Dean most was Sam betraying him
Exactly. And Dean even said that to Sam. And Sam? Never apologized. Never said a word about it. He keeps saying sorry for the last seal breaking when it was clear Dean didn't blame him for that.
So no, when i see the growth for Dean i don't see any growth for Sam (well, i saw some in 501-502 but that was ruined by 505).

I thought of you when I realized this was taking place in Canton. *grin* And they made a weirdly big deal about the location in this ep. The city's name was prominent on both the Wax Museum's sign and the PD's logo, both of which were splashed all over every wall, badge, and monument sign available. Even the Impala's OH plates get a glory shot at the end. OMG Fee, it's like the Show is waving at you!! *giggles*

If I ever thought I could get my hands on the Weekly World News article that talked about the Winchesters going on a hunt in Springfield, Ohio (where I was born and raised and until two years ago made my home), I'd do it in a heartbeat. Alas, I can't even find a scan of it on-line.

Canton is . . . up near Cleveland, I think. I love that the funky museums are always in Ohio towns. Remember the Edison Museum in Milan, OH?

*waves at Show*
