Ooooookaaaaayyyyyy . . .
Well, that was a cheery way to start the season. [/sarcasm]
If I do decide to do a blow-by-blow for this ep, it will have to wait until the iTunes download. We now get the show in widescreen, but our antenna (we discontinued satellite) isn't strong enough to get a good signal, and the signal bottomed out more than once. Meh.
Overall, I was not as impressed with this season opener as last year.
NO KANSAS WT????
Good things: Castiel is AWESOME in this ep. Sam and Dean are finally talking. We have confirmation that Dean has a GED! This makes me happy.
I loved that Dean knows how to do the blood sigil thingy and Sam knows how to make hex bags. Dean has the angel knowledge and Sam has the demon knowledge, and between the two of them they could kind of suss out either side. Sort of.
I was intrigued by the idea that Dean is supposed to be Michael's vessel. Because that could just be really . . . wow.
Lucifer twigged me out--which is as it should be--and just made me cringe.
Pinging my radar: I was very perturbed when Dean made the suggestion of killing Michael. I kind of expected them to bring up Michael, and I rather expect him to actually show up before the season is over, but I have strong reservations about them doing so. Because I don't expect them to treat him in an objective manner.
Hopefully much of my disappointment is due to the lack of quality in the presentation I was watching rather than the quality of the ep itself. But overall, I think this ep was kind of all over the place. I honestly don't think Kripke can sustain his storytelling without someone like Kim Manners to focus what shows up on the page. The two weakest eps last season, imo, were both Kripke eps (minus Kim Manners). He's heading up a good product, but whereas I used to look forward to Kripke eps, now I'm kinda starting to dread them.
Oh, you're probably wondering why I'm not mentioning Meg. Because our CW affiliate ran over with the commercials and totally neglected any sort of big reveal. If I hadn't been spoiled for her return, I'm not sure I would have gotten any sort of kick out of what I saw.
But finally, before I sign off. I'm rather glad that they acknowledged something that's been bothering me. Sam chose a demon over his brother. And that hurts. And Sam is incredibly remorseful for the mistakes and the choices he's made, but Dean's right--they can't go back. (At least not yet.) I know my Dean!girlness will show when I say this, but I hope that in addition to Dean forgiving Sam, that Sam will show Dean some of the respect Dean deserves. (And I also wonder if Dean has told Sam that Dean broke the first seal--'cause that's a major source of guilt for Dean, too. Breaking the first seal, then being unable to stop Sam from breaking the last seal.) There's plenty of guilt and angst to go around, but I'd like to come out of all this with at least some sense of confidence and self-worth for Dean.
I'm babbling now.
G'night, all.

Date: 2009-09-11 04:05 am (UTC)And i really liked the last scene. i didn't see sam remorsful - he was in some level but not for he has to be remorsful. He did free Luci but it wasn't his intention but he did choose demon over his brother and even now didn't think about it as bad thing. he was surprised Dean feels like he can't trust him. He really need to think more about what he's done.
