I've been saying for months that Jensen is not "shy," he's reserved.

Apparently, I'm not alone in this assessment:

Also, avocado sushi dipped in yum yum sauce is, in fact, yum-yum. However, I do not know if Jensen agrees with me on that point.

I'm not 100% sure, so take this with a grain of salt, but it sounds like he says, "I don't get to see a whole lot of conceptions of me . . ."

Honest. That's about the best I can make out of it. I'll listen to it through my earbuds when I get home, but I'm not sure it's going to help.

Jensen's response is great: "Food for thought, by Jared Padalecki."

Oh, boys. I love you so.

I *heart* that video. You want to know why? Because nobody's shrieking their idiot lungs out while the guys are trying to talk. The audience seems to actually be LISTENING. What a concept.

Hey there! Welcome!

I understand what you're saying, but I think I view "shy" a bit differently than the rest of the fandom does. He was definitely more reserved earlier in his SPN convention experience, and he's still more reserved than Jared. And I think Jensen has become more acclimated to the types of fans he has in the SPN fandom. But whenever fans say, "Oh, he's so shy!" I think of a retiring wallflower who's embarrassed to be in front of people, and Jensen isn't that.

You can't be overly shy and do what he does for a living. You can't be overly shy and put yourself in front of a roomful of hundreds of strangers who ask you embarrassing questions and put you on the spot with "Oh, do the [fill in the blank]" or say other embarrassing things to or about you.

And I love that he doesn't try to hide his reactions or feelings about things. He's tactful--sometimes even diversionary--but he's not afraid to tell the fandom to "let it go!" when one person too many asks him to do the Eye of the Tiger shtick.

I just . . . have never gotten the sense that Jensen is particularly "shy." Reserved, definitely. More comfortable in groups of people he knows, or around his friends and co-workers, of course. Who isn't? And I think having Jared on stage with him did make him more comfortable early on. But he's always been more reserved than Jared, and I think the learning has gone both ways.

You're right, of course, that there's a certain degree of maturation, too. That's only natural and to be expected, I think. He started SPN when he was . . . what? . . . 26 or 27? At 31, he's just hitting his prime, and I think he's got a lot to look forward to ahead of him.

But that's all just my opinion. I know a lot of the fandom probably disagrees with me (not an unusual circumstance for me to be in), so your mileage may vary. But Jensen doesn't consider himself shy; he considers himself reserved, which was kind of my point. :-)

BTW, thank you for stopping by. :-) It's fun to see a new face on my LJ.

sorry for the late of my reply. I moved in august and i hadn't internet . lot of mails and posts to read.
jensen started to be on the stage cause it was very shy and after it is became actor. yes jensen is a old shy . in his others show it wasn't the star.
but with supernatural all changed. jared helped him lot in 2005,2006 for the events, interviews, cons.
now jensen is less shy just reserved.

You can't be overly shy and do what he does for a living. You can't be overly shy and put yourself in front of a roomful of hundreds of strangers who ask you embarrassing questions and put you on the spot with "Oh, do the [fill in the blank]" or say other embarrassing things to or about you.

No worries regarding the delay in your reply. I hope the move went well.

You don't have to read this if you don't want to. It's long and kind of rambling.

I'm afraid I don't know how to explain my opinion any better. Yes, I've heard an early interview wherein Jensen refers to himself as shy. And I can see how that description might have applied to him in his early career, like when an interviewer made a comment about his kissable lips, and his response was good natured embarrassment. Or how it might apply to him in the sense that early on he found it awkward being the sole focus of so many fans' undivided attention.

But the whole "Oh, he's so shy. He needs Jared with him. It's so cute!" has always sounded so melodramatic to me. Like Jensen has always been this terrified child who needs Jared to hold his hand and protect him from the fandom. I'm sorry, but I just don't see it that way.

jensen started to be on the stage cause it was very shy

I know that acting and performance are often used to overcome shyness. But I've never heard that this was the case with Jensen. I've never heard or read that he took drama class in high school to overcome shyness. Is that in an old interview somewhere? What I recall him saying was that he took drama because his dad was an actor and it seemed like fun. I'm afraid I can't recall exactly where I heard him say that, though.

I also know that he put himself in front of his classmates and his school as a member of the bell guard in high school (similar to a pep squad), and he cheered for the powder puff football game when he was a junior. (Powder puff football is a traditional game wherein the girls play football, and the guys act as the cheerleaders. A lot of fun, but it definitely would not appeal to someone who is excessively shy.)

If you can link me to any interviews wherein Jensen discusses his thoughts regarding these activities or his early career experiences, I'd be interested. :-)

yes you can and be actor

Yes, I know. From my own experience as an amateur actress, I know.

But being a professional actor requires walking into a room of total strangers whose sole purpose is to judge you, and to try to win those people over in two minutes or less. I'm not talking about a convention; I'm talking about the audition process. That's more than medicine or an antidote for shyness; that's a mandatory skill required to be successful in the business. An actor who is shy can do this, but he or she has to get over it very quickly or they'll never make it through an audition.

Speaking from my own experience, one doesn't have to be "shy" to be nervous in front of a crowd of people who are staring at you, judging you, yelling at you. And you don't have to be "shy" to feel more comfortable with someone sharing the attention.

I guess it comes down to your definition of shyness. In my own opinion, what I've read in the fandom overstates his shyness. I can totally believe that he's outgrown the shyness of his youth, but I've found clips of early interviews and public appearances that just lead me to believe that his shyness has been overstated by a lot of the fans. I simply get tired of reading over and over about how "shy" Jensen is, like it's this deep seated problem that poor little Jensen has to overcome to be a fully functioning person. What the rest of the fandom has always called "shy," I've always thought of as "reserve." I guess it depends on your point of reference and definition.

But since I've never actually met him or talked to him about it, I only have what I've seen of interviews and convention clips from which to draw my conclusions. If you have any old interviews from his pre-SPN days, I think I'd find them interesting to read. :-)

Keep in mind this is all my opinion based on my own experience and observation as an actress, and my observations (none of them first hand) of Jensen. So of course your mileage may vary.

I hope all of that made sense.

:-D Oh, my dear (mon chere ?), I know you are French. I know English is not your first language. And I know that my response was very lengthy. I apologize. :-) Yes, when I get going, I do go on and on.

I found THIS VIDEO (http://feliciakw.livejournal.com/173428.html#cutid6) a few weeks ago. Jensen's portion starts at 2:14.

If you'd like to read my thoughts on Jensen as an actor and as a beautiful man, you can check out just about any of my entries tagged "jensen ackles." But specifically, HERE (http://feliciakw.livejournal.com/127453.html) and HERE (http://feliciakw.livejournal.com/135280.html). Be warned: They are very long.

at the school jensen was a little leader

I'm sure you've seen THESE (http://www.jensenacklesfans.com/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=64) pictures from his high school days, yes? He led the spectators in cheers (encouraging chants) at sporting events. If you have any questions about these pictures, I'll try to answer them as best I can from my own high school experience.

i was very shy less now. but it's hard to speak with lot of persons.

You don't have to be shy for that to happen. I don't consider myself to be particularly shy, but yes, I do get nervous when I have to speak in front of people. That's pretty normal for a lot of people, I think.

try to make a con to meet him.

I would love to, but unfortunately, cons are too expensive, and I don't have the money. :-(

Sweet dreams!

Hugs from the US!
