Ah, here we go. Sam's people skills asserting them selves more and more. Sam willing to grease a palm (with Dean's winnings, which Sam must have taken for safe keeping . . . ) to see a body. Dean with the research, tedious though he finds it, and the reading a room as soon as he walks in.

Also? We start in with the active character development for Sam. We start to get a picture that there's something more going on than meets the eye.

Also also? Dean is the tech geek. He knows the tools of his trade.

Dean trying to get Sam to talk about his nightmares.

Also x3? We start to get the sense that if a hunt puts Sam in what Dean deems as unnecessary danger, he'll (try to) put his foot down. We got a little bit of that in "Phantom Traveler," with Dean's "You're not doing it alone" and Sam's "We can do it together or I can do it by myself. I'm not seeing a third option." And here we get it with Sam admitting there's more to the Jess situation than Dean knows, and that if they don't let Bloody Mary come after Sam, Charlie will die.

And here we have it, folks. The first time Sam keeps a deep, dark, significant secret from Dean, much to Dean's chagrin and worry. Because how can he help Sam, how can he protect Sam, if Sam won't talk to him?

Plus? Truly creepy episode. Still one of my favorites in that regard. Ah, they don't write 'em like that anymore.

Sam's secret-keeping . . . I understand here what he says when he says, "Some things I just have to keep for myself." But Sam? Sammy? Honey? Not a good idea. Because something's gonna come back to bite you and/or your brother, and it's just going to be unpleasant for everyone.

I miss Dean's inter-tech geek.

Re-watching season 1 after season 4 makes you realize all seeds of the conflict were there since the beginning. Kripke did a great job setting all it all up.

I love smart!Dean and his tech-geekiness. It seems they balanced the exposition much better in early days, with the boys confirming their knowledge against what one or the other already knows, rather than making one of them (usually Dean) clueless, when we know from previous character development or dialogue that, duh, he already knows this. But I'll get into that later.

It's interesting to see how they've built upon things that were established in S1. *nods*

Is it wrong that my favourite thing about this ep is the first appearance of 'teh red shirt of sex'? *sigh* I love that shirt. Sadly it must have fallen victim to the job :(

Clothes in which the boys look good are always a reason to remember an ep. Though admittedly, I don't remember the eps so well as the specific shirts. Like the green one, that just POPS the green in Dean's/Jensen's eyes.

Oh, yeah.
