I have the bestest hubby in the world
Aug. 7th, 2006 06:04 pmGeo just got home from work. He said I'd be glad he was late and told me to close my eyes and hold out my hands. Then he gave me . . .
The Northern Exposure Cookbook!
I've been checking the Internet used book sites like Abebooks and Alibris and Amazon, and I haven't been able to find one for less than $25. Geo suggested that I check our local used book store, Book Haven, which I'd intended to do today, but due to getting sidetracked was going to put off until tomorrow after work.
But he stopped at Book Haven on his way home tonight. The woman recognizes him on sight, and asked if he was looking for anything in particular. He told her what he was looking for, and she said yes, she thought she had it. And lo, there it was with the cookbooks (I'd have checked the entertainment books first, since it was a merchandising tie-in). It's in excellent condition, too. And was much less expensive than the internet sites. And
izhilzha? It's got Joel's Jell-O recipe. Bwah!
I'm just so thoroughly tickled, I squealed.
My DH really is the best. Particularly after the . . . erm . . . tiff we had yesterday (which involved me getting upset over something that ultimately wasn't worth the energy and showed a lack of self-confidence on my part. But we won't get into that).
So YAY!!!
The complete title is: The Northern Exposure Cookbook: A Community Cookbook from the Heart of the Alaskan Riviera. I think it will be a highly amusing read, and given the cooking phase I'm going through right now (so long as it doesn't involve the oven, what with the heat and humidity we've had), this could be interesting.

Omg! No, it doesn't. Does it? Hee! Wow, that's what I'd call, uh, complete?
You're getting all these cool books. Darnit. While I'm just trying not to max out my (admittedly low-limit) credit card.

Date: 2006-08-08 10:47 am (UTC)That was The Village Book Shop, in Dublin (which is about an hour from here, near Columbus). And yes, it was extremely cool, wasn't it.
Book Haven is our local used book store (sort of sits behind the Kroger--that's Ralph's to you *g*--I usually frequent) and shares a parking lot with our AAA office (which I need to check with about renewing my passport) and is really close to Wine Works (our liquor store where I buy mead during the holidays). Book Haven is one of those hole in the wall used book stores that is MUCH bigger once you're in the front door than it looks from the outside, that's not really "dirty" but not particularly well-dusted. I don't think I've ever seen new books in there, and there is no rhyme or reason to the layout. But as is usual with such stores, the owner knows exactly where everythiing is, and apparently has her inventory listed in her head. :-)

Yep. :-) But in the introduction to the recipe, Joel explains how he adjusted the recipe so the bananas suspend in the Jell-O instead of just sitting on top. Yes, the characters introduce the recipes they submitted to the cookbook. It's really quite amusing. And there's an index in the back to the episodes in which the various recipes were mentioned (some merely in a passing throw-away line of dialogue).
Adam's intros are particularly amusing. And his recipes are kind of complicated. Though I want to try the noodle recipe he made for Joel at the cabin.
Oh, and do let me know when you've seen the first ep of S3. I really think you'll appreciate it.
Gotta get ready for work.
