Just a random catch-up.

Went to see Watchmen yesterday. It was pretty good. Pretty brutal, though. I was one of only three females that I counted in the theater. This movie is, I believe, fan!boy love. Glad I saw it in the theater. Once was enough.

In keeping with my 2009 goal of developing a new skill (the only of my goals I seem to be successful at, at the moment), I've tried my hand a crochet. I'm working on a project right now that takes two of the basic stitches. FYI, it's addictive. "Just one more row," and before I know it, three hours have passed. So if my LJ presence seems less than it was, that's why.

In order to stave off SPN withdrawal, I've been reviewing some of my DVDs. Also addictive. "I'll just watch this one scene. Oh, but this was a really good ep. Oh! And so was this one! And this one! Oh, and this one!" Trying to decide what of S4 I want to review between now and THURSDAYNEWSPNYAY!!!!

The weather is beautiful today! Geo wants me to help clear out the flower beds, so that's where I'll be going in a few minutes.

I read through and started beating out the script to the Good Friday drama I'm in. Started familiarizing myself with my monologue. It's going to feel really good to get back to scripts I can sink my teeth into. If you're interested in hearing about my drama activities (i.e., how I go about what I do), I'll share. I'm currently trying to draw on my previous experience playing this character to get back in the mindset. I also find I'm drawing on a little bit of the inspiration Jensen offers in the dramatic regard.

Also, Geo and I are getting involved in the formation of a new community theater group. Long story, but there is a desperate need for community theater here in Culpeper. And if I don't get back onto a stage and into a character soon, I'm gonna shrivel up and blow away.

That's about it for now.

Good for you on the crochet! I started knitting again a few years ago and love it. Have you checked out www.ravelry.com? It's a great online community for knit and crochet - lots of free patterns and communities. I think you'd like it!

Hey there! Thanks for the rec. Many, many years ago, my Grandma K taught me how to chain stitch and the basic knitting stitch. I never progressed much beyond that, though I've done a ton of needlework in my life (applique, candlewicking, cross stitch, etc.). I'm finding crochet to be a lot of fun.

Can you say more about JDM part of the movie?

Well, if you don't already know, the story is an alternate reality for the USA. The present is the mid-1980s, with flashbacks to the '40s, 50s, 60s, etc.

JDM, as you probably already know, played the Comedian (aka Eddie Blake). The movie starts out with his murder. He's old, retired (?), and someone comes to his apartment, there's a big fight, and he get's thrown out a window.

The Comedian is not really a likable guy. Very cynical. Beats up women. Rapist (we see an attempted rape and hear about another). Kills the Vietnamese girl who claims to be carrying his child (shoots her at point blank range). Assassinates President Kennedy.

JDM plays the role well, and he's really the perfect choice for the character. And he has one scene where he expresses tearful regret for the terrible stuff he's done.

And his voice is very distinctive, rich and mellow in timbre. But dang, I miss him as Papa Winchester.

Re: the Easter play I'm in . . . I mentioned it in passing in a previous post, so no worries there. I'm playing Mary Magdalene, a role I played many years ago, in a different play, at the church I grew up in. It's a good role, and one I enjoy. I'll post more after we have our read-through tomorrow.

My daughter started an afghan -- that lasted 3 rows and then she proclaimed it too hard.

That was 4 months ago -- 2 weeks ago, I thought, hey, why don't you. So I dug around and found her project -- also 2 basic stitches. And I so agree -- it's addicting. It's not the best -- I realized I missed a stitch at the very end, but now it's looking good, so if no one looks at the first 6 rows -- I'll be happy!

It's fun to watch reruns and do the afghan -- you can hear your show and keep busy. Funny, how the number of times I've fallen asleep on the couch has decreased. Idle hands make me want to sleep and/or eat!!

I'm really rather impressed with how good my project is looking. Where I change yarns looks a little awkward, and I figure that part is hidden in the picture accompanying the pattern. But overall, I like how it's turning out.

It's funny. There are some shows that demand my undivided attention. SPN is one of them. N3 is another. CSI does, but I was crocheting tonight while watching the Tivo. I probably should have paid more attention, because I was a Nicky ep and I do so like Nicky. But the crocheting is fun, and it's hard to stop once I get started. :-)
