Why the obsession?

Why the obsession with widescreen, some of you might well be asking.
My CW affiliate crops the picture to what is commonly called "full screen." So that
This:

gets cropped to this:

I kind of figured this:

Was supposed to look something like this:

But the first time I saw this:

It took me a moment to realize that Ruby was still there:

This is why I feel like I'm only watching half the episode when I see it on our CW affiliate. And why I hesitate to make any statements or observations until I've seen the whole picture. (Castiel, as a "big picture" kind of guy, knows what I'm talkin' 'bout, I'm sure.)
Incidentally, that first set of pics? I didn't even notice the toilet when I was watching the show. I was far too focused on what I could see of Sam, trying to make what I could out of the half of Sam's expressions that I did have, and cursing the fact that I knewknewKNEW I was missing something.
So there you have it. And believe me, I've wanted to do my write-up of 4.12. And I'm sure I'll want to do 4.13 even worse. But I can't. Not until I've seen the big picture. Which iTunes seems loathe to give me right now.
*grumble, grumble*

Date: 2009-01-28 09:59 pm (UTC)This also demonstrates how I cannot understand anyone liking "full screen" better than widescreen, considering how much of the picture is lost.
And if you think I am an A/V geek, you should really talk to Geo. He's got some A/V geek stories to tell. Like how the A/V geeks pretty much ran the school when he was in high school, because the teachers were at their mercy when they had to request A/V equipment.

Date: 2009-01-29 12:44 am (UTC)I've never really understood preferring fullscreen, either. Widescreen is where it's at. I just didn't know how true that was.
Yes, it always pays to be friends with the A/V geeks because like the computer geeks they go on to pretty much run the world.
