The anticipation builds . . .

So. Horror movies. Somewhat controversial in some of the circles in which I run. I personally am not into gore flix, but a good scary movie? Always a plus. And how does one classify Sweeney Todd the movie? A horror musical? 'Cause, dude. The movie? Yeah, there was gore. Cringe-inducing gore. But anyone who follows this LJ knows how much I love the stage production, and I give the movie points just for being Sweeney.

I've got several reviews in my archives for horror movies, too. So apparently I'm not adverse to the genre.

But seeing the pop-up ads for My Bloody Valentine 3D? I'm getting way more excited than is strictly necessary, considering: A) it's a re-make; and B) it's gore.

However, every time I see a pop-up, I can't help but think, "Jensen's new movie! In actual theaters! On actual big screens! And in 3D to boot! This is gonna be fanTAStic!"

Because seriously, I'm very excited for the man. Probably more than I should be considering I've never even met him. But his first big-time movie! That's exciting!

I've read here and there that some people are worried he's going to be typecast in the horror genre. But seriously? I don't think that's a concern. He's done a lot of genre stuff, yeah, but that's not where he got his start, and he's done other stuff, too. I really wish you all could see Still Life, because that is an excellent example of his work in a little bit of everything--family drama, mystery, romance, even crime drama to a lesser extent.

I just am all a-squee that he's having the opportunity to expand his resume into feature film. And the horror genre is commercially successful, so this is a plus in my book.

Even if I do have to watch the goo through my fingers.

I've been thinking more and more about this movie. At first I had NO plans to go. Now, I'm really pyched about seeing it. In fact, not 1 minute ago, I was browsing to find a real 3-D theater nearby. Luckily there's one close by. Woot!

Will I be grossed out? Hell yeah. But seeing Jensen on the big screen is gonna make up for it. I'm excited for him, too. I hope it has an awesome opening weekend.

It's got stiff competition now, but it should do well considering the line-up. The Unborn raked in over $21M in its first weekend, which puts it in second place for a horror movie that comes out at the beginning of the year. Hostel is the lead January horror.

Apparently you Northern Hemisphere types don't like to mix horror and cold weather. ;)

I have to find someone other than the husband to go see this with me, or I will end up having no feeling in the arm nearest to him: he's the type that grabs the person next to them and squeezes off their blood circulation as if that is going to make him less terrified. He watched the S3 finale with me a few weeks ago, and he was climbing the walls. My favorite quote:

ME: What is the matter?

BILL: It's scary!

ME: What are scared of? You're fine!

BILL: I'm scared that the small child is going to kill Sam! I do not want Sam to die!

ME: Why not?

BILL: Because he's your TV boyfriend and that would make you sad!
