Possible SAG strike
Dec. 16th, 2008 07:11 amI don't know if any of you have been following the progress of the SAG/AMPTP negotiations--which have stalled--but I did some looking today and found some interesting information.
It would seem that strike authorization is an extremely heated debate right now, with most of the information I found this morning indicating that the SAG membership is, generally speaking, against authorizing a strike.

SAG Strike Rift Emerges
What I'd like to know is how actors who belong to both AFTRA and SAG deal with something like this. (I believe Jared said at a con that he belongs to both. I assume Jensen does, too.) AFTRA signed their new contract, so AFTRA actors have contracts they must honor. But if SAG goes on strike, they have to honor that union as well. So does that mean that if they're working on a show covered by AFTRA, that they keep working, but they can't audition for movies or TV shows covered by SAG?
I have my own thoughts on the whole SAG strike issue, but since I'm not involved in the industry, I won't get into them here. As a TV viewer, I really don't want t repeat of the WGA strike, kthxbye. At this point, though, I'm not going to get too worried.
