I’ve been threatening to do this for a long time, and every time I’m presented with new evidence, the thought occurs to me again. Once upon a time, [livejournal.com profile] izhilzha posed the question, Have either of the Winchester boys ever read Harry Potter? This question was posed long before I started watching the show, so I really had no idea what was going on with SPN, other than it was about a couple of brothers who hunted ghosts . . . or something. I might not even have known that much.

But as I became acquainted with the first season of the show, I told her, of course they've read it (or at least seen the movies, as might be the case with Dean), and Dean tells Sam, "Dude! You're totally Harry Potter."

Warning to [livejournal.com profile] kalquessa: There are some spoilery things behind the cut. Proceed with caution.

So here it is: my running list of reasons why Sam Winchester is, in fact, Harry Potter.

This theory first occurred to me during “Something Wicked,” which for quite a while I called “the dementor episode.” Why? Because Sammy—both as a child and as an adult—almost got sucked dry by a dementor. Oh, sure, Dean called it a striga, and the ep was totally about Dean’s angst at having screwed up his father’s hunt and almost getting his little shaggy-haired brother (another commonality between Sam and Harry—the hair) killed, but all I kept thinking as I’m watching the ep the first time was “Dementors! The boys need to eat more chocolate!”

In another episode, we’re told (by the YED, so the source is suspect) that Sammy has demon blood in him—this happened the night YED killed Mary Winchester—and it is for this reason that Sammy is connected to the YED and has visions regarding this connection. Hello????? Harry ended up with a part of Voldimort’s soul—when Voldimort killed his Lily Potter, btw—and that’s how he was able to have Voldi-related visions. Are we seeing a connection here?

Sam Winchester is Harry Potter.

The Impala is apparently built with 4th dimensional technology. Why do I say this? How the frell else can the guys fit a *beer cooler* (as seen in “Fresh Blood”) into the car? I’m telling you, the trunk has the same spell cast on it as the pouch Harry had in HP 7 and Hermione’s handbag. Now, Dr. Who would, of course, point out that this is merely 4th dimensional technology, larger on the inside than on the outside, but given that it is a spell that Mr. Weasley used on the flying Ford Anglia, I’m of the opinion that yet again we are presented with evidence there’s more going on than mere coincidence.

Sam Winchester is actually Harry Potter.

Now, in “Dream a Little Dream of Me” we’re presented with yet another commonality: polyjuice potion . . . erm . . . African dream root. When Sam hands Dean a bit of Bobby’s hair and says they have to drink it so it will be Bobby’s dream they enter, I’m totally thinking of Hermione’s mistake of putting cat hair in the polyjuice potion . . . Sammy, you’re sure that’s Bobby’s hair, right? So once again, potions with hair . . .

Sam Winchester is Harry Potter.

I’m sure more will be revealed as the series progresses. In the meantime, the boys need to eat more chocolate, guard their 4th-dimensional spells, and be careful with their potion mixing.

I shall keep a running tab and try to keep updated.
