This was an entertaining little jaunt with a little bit of everything. First blush . . .

Sammy just out of bed. Dean wanting to take the clippers to him.

Dean tossing Sam a beer; Sam's lack of reflex. "This is why we can't have nice things."

They've got a shooting range!

Psst. Charlie. There were women of letters. (The chick who was possessed by Abbadon was going to become one.) Believe it or not, Charlie, Elliot Ness worked with a women who I'd lay money was a Woman of Letters. :-)

Charlie has read the books. Hee! And now knows the score. (I'm guessing someone--possibly Becky?--found Chuck's unpublished manuscripts and posted them on-line? Otherwise, she only knows the score through S3. Anyway . . . ) She surely must have questions, though, about Lisa and Ben, about how did Sam get out of the Cage . . . But I digress . . .

To Dean: Thanks for saving the world.
To Sam: Sorry you have zero luck with the ladies.
Me: Heh!

Dean shopping with his little sister Charlie.

Dean taking charge and knowing answers. John's journal. Sam is jealous of Charlie's computer. Charlie is jealous of Dean having John's journal. Oh, I love the turnabout. :D

The monster was kind of predictable (and not nearly as cool as the first time we saw a djinn), but whatever.

Dean led throughout this entire episode--caring, compassionate, understanding, insightful, resourceful . . . there's a reason he's always the one holding the world together (even when he might fall apart).

A small-ish gripe, which might not have been a gripe, had I not been looking for it based on Charlie's last appearance: The ep was about her. Not necessarily in a completely distracting way; like I said, I was looking for it.

I loved the dynamic between Dean and Charlie. Dean really cares about her, and she remembers his pie. Also, is Charlie the first one we've ever actually heard tell Dean, "I love you," in so many words? (Dream!Lisa doesn't count, 'cause she was a dream.)

Hugs. Hugs are good.

Loved that Sam was ready and eager to 'fess up that he should have listened to Dean, that Dean was right and Sam is sick but he was glad he was there . . . then Dean hugs Sam.

Almost felt a tear when Charlie was reading to her mom.

Re: preview for next week . . . Always Dean is holding the world together. He keeps his head when everyone about him is going to pieces. Always. Even when he's sinking toward the dregs himself.

And my weekly chorus of "Jensen looks really good." He's so much fun to watch. And he looked good in the military dress uniform. As always.

You know, after my initial geek-out at Charlie's line to Dean, I sighed because honestly? That's probably the first time he's heard that in a non-sexual context since Sam was a baby. I was glad - so glad - that someone finally told him straight-up.

I really enjoy the dynamic those characters have, and I love the way Charlie said it--as if she's not used to saying it, but she was so full of affection that it had to be said. It was plain, and simple, and straight forward. And yes, Dean needs to hear it, bare and honest.
