We have music!

Dean looks good. Fierce!fighter!Dean gives us much to appreciate.

However, this hardened attitude is going to take some getting used to. I hope his inner self hasn't changed completely.

And yes, a well-made burger is a treasure.

Sam. Oh, Sam. Dude. I . . . *sigh*

Kevin. You are a resourceful, clever kid, and I think I kinda love that about you.

Crowley. Are you this season's Big Bad? Is the show really going to be Oh, Crowley?

Baby. So good to see you back, even if you do smell like dog.

Dean did get to keep his leather jacket, yes?

The coloring on the title harkens back to S2.

Benny could be an intriguing character. But I sense that there will surely be some conflict down the line. Will he fall off the wagon? Is he even on the wagon? Is he going to stab Dean in the back? Or the neck?

This ep leaves me with some trepidation. Perhaps it's a matter of settling in to the new showrunner's vision. Perhaps it is the fear that Dean who cared about people is buried too firmly somewhere under the stain of Purgatory.

I am uneasy. I am nicely tense and alarmed.

But show is back! \o/

And as always Jensen looked fantastic.

First, yes, Jensen looked fantastic. I kind of like "warrior" Dean, and I'm sure our Dean is still there, just buried deep because he's been in survivor mode so long. Dean looking at the candy made me think of Jeremy Renner in the Hurt Locker in the grocery store. I also think there's more to Sam's story and him "not looking." I liked Kevin in this episode too. And seeing Crowley's "true colors" will be interesting too. Cannot wait to see how Benny plays into things. So here's hoping they stay on track for a great season!

Oh, the vending machine. I'm sure they were going for a "Hurt Locker" moment, but I also kinda filled in blanks with "what's safe to eat?" He hasn't had real, human food in over a year, I'd imagine, and when he left, the Leviathans were on their way to tainting the entire food source of the US. So all those processed foods? What's safe?

But definitely Hurt Locker. They're definitely going for the comrade in arms readjusting to civilian life (in this case, life in the real world) vibe. I imagine that will carry through much of the season.

Yep, I was nervous too but they set up some interesting things this first ep so I am happily anticipating the rest of the season :-)

I'm intrigued, having finally seen it. The boys hurt my heart, but I really like that Sam did the moving on thing (and it doesn't seem to have changed him crazy much) while Dean was immersed in combat. The flashbacks were great, and I hope the season continues this trend of being interesting.

Also: Kevin!

The biggest issue with Sam moving on is that he didn't even check to see what happened to Dean first. It seems odd that, given previous instances when Dean has disappeared (such as in the flash of red light in Time After Time) Sam has followed the case and at least figured out what happened to Dean, that he didn't even try before he ran. And leaving Kevin to fend for himself.

I think things are not completely as they seem with Sam. There must be more to the story than simply "I didn't look for you, I ran, I left Kevin high and dry, I left the life, I found a girl."

After a year of very different experiences, these aren't the guys we left last season, and they aren't the guys each other remembers.

But I talk a little about that in my next entry, and as the season has progressed, my thoughts have modified.

Yes, it does continue to be interesting. :-)
