Had what sort of felt like it was approaching a proper Memorial Day, the first since the move to Virginia. We went to the commemorative ceremony at the national cemetery in town, and although there was no parade and no reading of "In Flanders Field" or the Gettysburg Address (which is on a plaque on one of the buildings at the cemetery), but the keynote speaker was very interesting, and one of the high school bands played. We walked around downtown before doing a wee bit of shopping and coming home.

We ate both breakfast (waffles) and dinner (steak on the grill) on our screen-in porch. The weather is lovely, and it was just a nice, relaxed day.

How can the weather be lovely in Virginia when it's hot as balls in Maryland??? It was like a sauna outside today. I'm glad I had my cookout on Saturday because today would have been miserable.

It got up to the mid-80s, I think, but it wasn't muggy. It was hot standing in the sun (particularly in my navy blue t-shirt), but there was a nice breeze, and out on our back porch for meals, I couldn't have asked for better. (Well, access to a swimming pool would have been nice, but I won't quibble.)

Central air is also a gift from Above.

It was hot and humid as hell here. Not much of a breeze even though my house is on the water. Also, my new house does not have central air! I have three window units and the only place that stays cool is my bedroom so guess where I hang out when I'm home? It's supposed to cool off later this week thankfully.

Our old house didn't have central air either. We had a window unit in our bedroom, and a window unit we installed permanently in the living room. The air circulation wasn't really conducive to cooling the whole house, so those were the rooms where we spent a lot of time.

We've had rain here since the weekend, but it still hasn't become unbearable. Yet.

Oh good, can you tell me how bad your electric bill was with the window units? I'm worried it's gonna be out of control!

I'll ask my husband, but there might be a difference, as I imagine the cost of living in Ohio is less than that of Maryland, yeah?

Possible but I don't think energy rates are that different per state. I think it might be regulated.

In general though, you are right. The cost of living would definitely be higher in MD.
