Sharing some Jensen love.

Just got done watching the download. I really, really like this ep, for oh so many reasons. Some of them I mentioned last night, but I want to share something that specifically hit me about dynamics in this one.

One of the things I love--loved--about this episode? Watching Jensen play levia-Dean. Well and truly chilling in his cold charm and arrogance. Psychopathic by human standards. And yet, strangely likable in his downtime when unloading about how he feels about the real Dean.

Also? Jensen playing a bad guy--this bad guy--was disturbingly hot. I mean, seriously. Disturbingly. Hot. When he's standing on the diner counter looking all stone-faced and holding that automatic weapon? It's a truly evil version of 2014!Dean. Only not as cynical. It's weird and wrong and I kinda loved it.

Also also? I kept a running wink tally on the ep. Because Jensen winking rather undoes me. Three times. Three. But sinister. Sinister winking. Chilling and disconcerting and *shudder*

Jensen has gotten to play several versions of Dean: dream!demon!Dean, 2014!Dean, scaredy-cat!Dean, softer-side-of!Dean . . . But they've all been variations, different facets, of Dean. This Dean was not Dean. It was a separate entity who looked like Dean. The only thing comparable was when Jensen played shifter!Dean.

I just . . .

This is not a character I'd ever want to cross paths with. One of the charms of Dean is that his bad boy act is just that. A significant part of it is an act. Like an angsty nougat wrapped in the delicious dark chocolate of determination and perseverance, all surrounding the soft peanut butter center of Dean's heart. But levia-Dean, the bad is not an act. There is nothing redeeming about levia-Dean.

And yet. It was kinda fascinating.

I loved the character's dynamic, and the dynamic he had with levia-Sam. They were a team. They worked together. They complemented each other. They were Sam and Dean if Sam and Dean were the serial killers Bela accused them of being. (I also wanted them to trade lunches to see if "Sam" would like the burger while "Dean" would enjoy the salad.)

Now, as for real Dean. Yes, I love him. So very much. The scene in the borrowed "Chevy Chevette," (Geo tells me it was actually a Pontiac T1000 or the Canadian equivalent, a Pontiac Acadian) is, for me, quite possibly the centerpiece of the ep. Because the lip syncing was hilarious. And sexy. Yeah, I don't know how that happened, either. But there ya go. It was a moment of totally in character humor, like we haven't seen in a long time. And the fact that he was lip syncing. Ha! (I also couldn't help but think of the "Jensen has a great voice! Dean should sing!" contingent. I don't know. It just seemed to be a tweaking of them, because Dean can't sing, and so we didn't get either Dean or Jensen singing, and yet, hilarious!)

(Also x3: Air Supply was one of the last concerts I worked at the PAC before the move. Full house, line halfway around the building for autographs after, and the guys were really quite charming. The older acts always seem to well and truly appreciate their fans. Fans who have aged with them, new fans having been introduced to them. They come out into the audience, they really engage. The music is nostalgically cheesy, but oh, the memories.)

You'll probably read all of this again in the long and rambly, but I just wanted to get this written while it's still fresh.

Because the more I think about it, the better I like this ep. Even the end, as weirdly written as it was (and from what I understand, J&J actually re-wrote the scene's dialogue to keep it in character), the Dean stuff seemed solid. The dialogue was weird, but the dynamic was there. The dynamic we've seen before, and we've seen the result at least three times ("Scarecrow," "Hunted," and "Good God, Y'all"). But I'll leave that till later.

Anyway, yes. The acting and character dynamics in this ep were fantastic. Hitting on all thrusters. Pretty much loved everything about it from an acting POV. And the story itself was great. Wish the guys had had something stronger to work with at the end, but overall, fantastic!

Yes to everything you said! This is one of the episodes that immediately after watching it I wanted to re-watch because I felt like I was gaping (in a good way) so much in so many parts that I probably missed out on a lot of the really subtle moments that I love. :-) Of course I also just want to appreciate again the many awesome Jensen moments, too. Hee!

This ep was brimming with awesome Jensen moments. Beginning to end. And I feel like a broken record, but Jensen looked really good.

I'm writing my long and rambly now, but this post pretty much states what I loved so about Jensen's work in this ep.

Is it Friday yet?

I loved it too. I hadn't thought about Levi!Dean and how there was really no Dean in him, so I really appreciate you bringing that to my attention. I've only seen it once and was sleep deprived but I hope for another viewing where I can go back and fully appreciate it.

Bad!Ass Jensen. Mmmmm. Maybe I like bad boys so much in fic and Show because I married such a nice guy! Fantasy and LJ can be so much fun when you know it ain't for real!

There is so much to love about this ep. And one of the things I love is how different LeviaDean is from real Dean. Even when he's impersonating Dean, something felt not quite right.

Can't wait till Friday to see how the other issues are resolved.
