It's official

I am now officially a resident of the Commonwealth of Virginia. Last week, I received my voter registration card (meaning I've appropriately changed voting locale from Ohio to Viriginia). I said early on that I'd be a real resident of Va when I was able to vote here. Well, now I can.

Still, I'd not call myself a Virginian. Or am I?

Also, I mowed the lawn today. Oy! I love that we have 1.33 acres . . . and the side yard was like mowing the lawn back in Ohio. I did it with the push mower. But the rest of it? I did it with the riding mower, and I'm starting to wonder what the previous owner was thinking planting so many tree starts. Mowing around flowers bed "islands" can be done. But all these little trees? It got to be rather silly.

We are also currently without phone service. Until next Tuesday. Don't know why or what happened, but it's apparently something in the physical line, and the company doesn't know what. Apparently, they'll start at our house and work their way up the line until they find the problem. Thank goodness for cell phones. On the bright side, we haven't gotten any telemarketing calls recently.

Cool! We can have coffee when I come out to visit my sister sometime! Maybe I can make Izh come with me so I don't get lost forever changing planes in Houston or anything.

Norfolk. She's a Navy bride, so she lives in the vicinity of the air base, though not actually on base.

Also, Felicia, good to know you don't have phone service. Heh. What are your thoughts on trying to chat soon? At least I'll know not to call your house line.

Yay, someone to fly to VA with me wheee! I get Izh, sister and Felicia all in one place! That would be so cool! And we could all four go the Busch Gardens together, or something.

Any thoughts on this actually happening? I'm trying to plan a trip out to see Felicia in the near future (like the last week of October, or something of that sort)...when would you be making plans to see your sis?

Just thinkin' out loud. And tired of flying solo, even if it's a good time to sit and read....

I wasn't planning on anything that soon due to a vague notion of saving money, but...I'm not going to be getthing any richer...allow me to consult with the keeper of the purse husband and get back to you. I'd really like to do this, if you're up for it and we can work out a good tome.

And I hear ya about the flying alone. Can't say I'm tired of it because I've only done it once, but I hate flying (not the scared kind of hate, the uncomfortable and bored kind) and it's so much better with somebody else along for the ride.

Ugh, I was all excited about this and then I remembered the other reason I've been putting off a VA visit: I am almost out of vacation time at work. *weeps* I have to wait for next year's fresh store of time off to kick in. *weeps more* So...no October for me. But if you do start thinking about another trip to VA any time next year, do let me know because it would be so cool to go with you!

Well, I'm running low on paid time, too, but I think I'll take some anyway. I haven't gotten out of town properly for a while, and I can't always be saving up time for the visit "home" around Christmas, not when I have friends at such a distance.

But yes! We should see about a co-visit next year sometime.

Yeah, I went to Colorado for a week in May and then we did the Mammoth trip, which was a week. So if I went and asked for more time off right now, my poor boss would probably jump off a balcony. It's always tough getting people to cover the Shiny Desk for me because everyone else hates doing my job (I don't know why, it's a lovely job!) and they make her life difficult.

Yes, this is a lame state of things. We do now have wireless at the house, but for some reason my computer + wireless card won't hook me up. I am trying to get this troubleshot...troubleshooted?...but have not yet had success.

Ah, okay. I'm in Culpeper, which is in northern Va, about 2 hours outside of DC. Our closest major cities are Warrenton, Fredericksburg, and Charlottesville. Your sister is in the southeast corner of the state. Lots to do between here and there.
